My great Aunt read playing cards and I had another aunt who read tea leaves, so this is something I grew up with. She said I had the gift but just didn’t know how to use it. She even gave me a deck of cards with the meanings. Which I lost of course I lost. You meanings seems to be pretty close to what I remember, so I guess I’ll give this another try. Thank you!

I find the tarot provide a general view on the current situation and some loose guidance at best, not really specific on the near future like playing cards. Am a bit confused though. Here where I live it is thought that the diamond represend business, work, work places etc and the clubs would be money and finances so it takes a while for me to adapt.

I'm not sure if you will ever read this but must try. Haven't done cartomancy before but yes to tarot (yrs ago). Bought a new deck. While watching a movie tonight shuffled the deck and then intentionally forced cards opposite direction as it felt I should. After 45 minutes looked at the deck and EVERY single card was in the upright position. This cannot be?! How? Wasn't paying attention, just wanted to get feel of cards. Has this happened to anyone else?

It's a matter of what makes sense for you personally, I have read so many different meanings for each card but for me the ones I use make sense logically when you take into account the number and suit symbolism... some meanings I've seen just seem really random with no coherent pattern or system throughout so they just don't work for me.

I have watched a lot of videos to learn to read my cards, but yours I’ve been able to vibe with the best so far. Thank you for sharing! My 3 card spread from left to right is 3 diamonds+King Spades+Queen Diamonds. Would this indicate that current financial troubles will result in better finances? Or small financial troubles will turn into larger ones?

Thank you so much! I would read this as the former answer, since the spread ends on a red card, which is a positive outcome. If the King and Queen were switched then it would be money problems getting worse. I read this as your money troubles will improve possibly with help from a generous or knowledgeable lady, or by learning the truth about the situation, and the source of your troubles could be due to a male who is ill disposed towards you, or 'the system/authority' in general such as fines, owed taxes, legal fees etc. I hope this helps.

I think this is because of translating playing cards to tarot, clubs are equated to wands=fire and spades to swords=air, which is the same as the tools in a lot of ceremonial magic and witchcraft. However the playing cards don't really translate well to tarot, they are their own system. The sources I learnt from used the astrological correspondences where clubs=air=autumn for example because Libra is an air sign which begins autumn, astrologically speaking. If you think about it, a diamond shines like fire, a heart is emotions which are equated with water (and hearts=cups in tarot - the only suit that matches up), a spade digs the earth, and a club swings through the air.

I’ve learnt from other sources that Clubs represent Summer, Hearts - Spring, Spades - Winter and Diamonds - Autumn. Is there a reason for this sort of discrepancy? Are there different systems for the assignation of meanings to the cards that would account for this?

I got sidetracked and started putting the suits to Archangels and then it starts dealing with Geomancy and Constellations and the 16 Figures. I think I Ching got involved along with rolling dice. I'm going to keep it simple before Geomancy.

There does seem to be different systems, although most agree spades=winter. I use the same seasons and elements as the astrological sun signs, so diamonds=fire=spring (because Aries is a fire sign), hearts=water=summer (because Cancer is a water sign) etc. I would pick whichever meanings make sense for you.

I didn't realise I'd missed this, here you go: A club between two hearts = positive experiences shared with others A club between two diamonds = money making (money-making-money) A club between two spades = troubled will, feeling trapped A club between two clubs = busy busy busy! A club falling in the middle followed by a spade means moving towards problems, a club in the middle followed by a red card means moving towards a good outcome. Hope this helps!

Hi, this combo would indicate that your emotions and communication/thoughts/finances need working on. The club is at the end so we know from the colours that this means a problem on the horizon, however no spade is involved so it's nothing serious. What exactly needs work would be indicated by the numbers of the cards. Hope this helps!

I don't know if I got it right but Clubs/ Clovers are negative but show work that needs to be done. So in this case, the problem "could" be solved after proper work is done. If you only count the colours, it is a negative reading, so suits are adding another layer to it.

Hi Anne, I learnt mainly from historical books and pamphlets reproduced in collections of folk magic and divination, mainly dating from the 18th - early 20th centuries. I took the meanings which made sense to me and adapted ones that didn't to come up with an integrated system. There are so many meanings out there for each card but you find common ground once you read enough of them.

All of the suits repesent different aspects of the body, the hearts are the blood and circulation systems, the diamonds are the brain and the nervous system, the clubs are the muscles and organs, and the spades are the skeletal system. In terms of numbers the fives relate to the body and health.
