I would suggest using a bearing race and seal driver next time Jay. Most people do not know that using a punch even on hardened steel race like that causes indentations on the race. If you dent steel the metal has to shift somewhere else it doesn't vanish. So in other words a small flat spot on the race from a punch could mean the race is off by one thousands somewhere else. Doesn't sound like much but one thousands can destroy a bearing, just food for thought. Anyways its a nice vid, keep it up

Home Depot sells some really nice, comfortable knee pads, this way you can save your knees for later on in life. I am 71 young and I still wear them. I also use a work bench, my back appreciates this very much.

I bought mine from a consignment boat shop in texas and had it pulled to cali with no problems. But did this as soon as I got it in my possesion, all looked in great shape other than adjusting the brakes.

Very true, but I have been doing this for years, and it works if you are gentle.

also a goog idea to manuver the hub/drum assy. is to after you have the drum/hub off flip it studs down through the wheel and use the wheel to support the hub make the wheel seal, bearings etc. easier to install or remove. I do it all the time when servicing tractor/trailer wheel ends

Personally I save old cardboard to lay down flat and use as a work area for all the grease work. Keep your garage floor clean.

Somewhat great informational video! For anyone who watches, please never hit an aluminum part with a steel hammer. Use a 2X4 block between the soft aluminum surface and hardened steel hammer head, that or a brass mallet. Breakdown of the system was outstanding, nothing probably came of beating the aluminum that way - if it did then it would just be part of the learning curve. Get out there and do it yourself. Let's hope the Sea Ray is still intact and ready to be put in the drink.

Barry Crawford Funny. I’ve used aluminum rounds to punch out steel bearings. Never seen an aluminum seal either

Wood block to start the seal in straight then TAP in . Races WILL Break so don't get too carried away. Good video just like many others you have made. You got me through the fiberglass and gelcoat job I did on a SkiBarge that I restored a couple of years ago so thanks for that one.

An appropriate sized socket works better than a hammer

I take my old races and cut a grove out of them with a cut off wheel, then you can find a socket the right size and your dead blow mallet and drive the new races in, then a screwdriver will pop the old race out.

@grendelsniper That was the one thing I had not checked at all. I a surprised it made it across the country last year.

Tip: Paint the the 4 way lug wrench that fits for that trailer nut, this way you do not have to play musical ends.

great videos, you should use a brass or wood piece to drive in the races, you can see big notches where your steel punch gouged into the race, that you want smoooooth like butter. Bearing driver set is cheap at harbor freight too.

I have installed a hydraulic brake 660. when braking a trailer a beating occurs. Could this be a defect in some part inside the mechanism? How can I diagnose?

A OK Well a brass or copper drift will seat the bearing. Wood might protect the bearing but it absorbs impact I wish he’d used some good grease too. If you push a rag or paper towel through cleanup is fast and not messy
