Here's one piece of advice, you should do the majority of your cleaning and blasting with the old seals and piston in place. This will help seal and protect the piston surfaces far more than anything you can apply.

that depends, they use a lot of salt on roads where I live, so the biggest problem with these calipers is the corrosion of the piston AND the seal seat in the caliper, so if it has corroded bad enough around the seal seat (and I mean the hydraulic seal, not the dust cover), then the caliper is scrap, since there is no way to clean that area, if you do a really thorough job, and perhaps use electrolytic rust removal (or chelating rust removal solutions), then grease to fill the rust pits when seating the seal and dust cover, then it might work for couple of years, but if water gets in, it will corrode and seize in a matter of months not sure what they make calipers out of these days, but I don't recall them rusting this bad 10-15 years ago, just had to repair a caliper on my 7yo VW that seized on me suddenly, dust cover was intact, but when I pushed it off, revealed heavily corroded piston, chrome flaked off etc, and visually, there seemed to be very little chrome on the piston compared to cars made back in 1990ties and they talk about sustainability and green etc, and produce these cars that are junk in less than 10 years...

It is an amazing job, but I have a different experience. I also bought this repair kit for € 19 each. At the cost of cruel work, I degreased, disassembled the caliper that required a special tool, filled the system with new brake oil, and finally bleed the brake system. The success lasted for about 1 week because he started to release the brake oil again. No, the cylinder was not scratched, I just think it was asymmetrically worn. I then bought a new caliper for € 15.95. A week later, the caliper on the other side broke, I also bought it. If I had bought it in pairs, the price would be € 27.06 / pair. The brake caliper replacement is a fraction of the refurbishment, it takes half an hour. The renovation is an incredibly big suck, and after that you can clean up and pay for the consumables.

Congratulations on a good video! The greatest point is the DIY sandblaster box! Please do a video on it! On the less than good parts, please let me comment on your use of too much high-temperature grease on the piston seals. I believe that it is better to just use new clean Brake Fluid to assemble the piston seals, as any grease will contaminate the brake fluid. In respect of the many comments saying not to use grease on guide pins, my experience is that pins MUST ALWAYS be well lubricated with high-temperature grease because it is the design of a FLOATING CALIPER! If NOT well greased, one is certain to end up with very different wear on the internal vs external pads, a less than good pad retraction and more noise! That is the reason to use rubber sleeves with caps! Just do not over grease them to prevent ANY grease to migrate to the rotor or pads. The sliding contact points on the pad backplate must be also lubricated with Hi-Temp grease, but not more than a match-head blob of grease will suffice.

it looks easy, we always repair them, because the repair kit is 1/10th of the price of a caliper, but when something goes wrong or it's not repairable( very rare cases, because of wear) we have to buy a new one. in some cases the pushing mechanism of the handbrake gets destroyed when the piston is siezed and you try to remove the piston, we can't get a replacement kit for the interior parts.

Before sandblasting, you should wash the clamp with water under pressure to remove any contamination. After this treatment, you can sandblast. If you have sandblasted the part, never use any liquids or rags to re-clean (6.53-8.00). Make sure the surface is kept clean until painting. Such a thin coating will not protect the caliper against re-corrosion. Przed piaskowaniem powinieneś umyć zacisk wodą pod ciśnieniem aby usunąć zaniczyszczenia . Po tym zabiegu możesz piaskować. Jeżeli wypiaskowałeś część ,nigdy nie używaj żadnych płynów i szmatek do ponownego czyszczenia ( 6.53-8.00).Zadbaj o utrzymanie czystej powierzchni do czasu malowania. Tak cienka powłoka nie zabezpieczy zacisku przed ponowną korozją.
