I suggest to have the new seal ring put in as it is actually good time to do so.

Thanks for making this video, I was wondering about replacing those seals. I want to powder coat my calipers at some point and figure the seals may need to be replaced in order to do so.
@adogmcdizzle Жыл бұрын
I think one of the problems with these are the stainless steel plates the pads slide on, the aluminium corrodes behind the stainless and pushes the plates out inhibiting the sliding of the pads…

nice work, I have trouble with my brakes for my e55 w211 in which the brakes are very stiff and barely brake. I been to the dealership to bleed the system hoping it would do something but didn't work. Would you think I should rebuild the calipers the same way you did and make a difference? at this point I don't think it could be anything else. I also swapped out my pads and realized it wasn't evenly shaved, could that mean my calipers need to get rebuilt? thanks!

Hey! What do you mean when you say "bleed the system hoping it would do something but didn't work"? Where they actually able to bleed the system? If the answer is NO - then it may be the servotronics inside the SBC system. SBC on our cars were extended to 25 years so if that's the case then it should be covered. If the answer is YES - that means fluid was traveling from the master cylinder down to each of the calipers so the problem is likely to be found at the caliper. The fact that you also have uneven pad wear points to a failure somewhere in the caliper. Could be as simple as a sticky piston(s) or caliper failure. Check the brake lines too. let me know how you make out or if you have any other questions.

Hi, what are the inner diameters of the seals you are using ? Does this kit includes 8 seals or 4 ? My dealer told me that part numer for the seals does not fit my car(04 e55 w211)
@thecarchak4 ай бұрын
The kit came with eight seals from FCP and I’ll look on their website to see if the part number that I’m using matches your caliper. My car is 2006 btw

@@thecarchak preciate it. Might need to replace the entire Caliper. I have a tad bit of pitting inside the caliper. I used a little steel wool to smooth it out. Hard to find parts. AutoZone claims to have a rebuilt caliper for $90. Not sure if that's a correct part. Will find out. Mercedes sells a caliper rebuild kit which includes just a few seals like what you used but that's not my issue. The pitting and rust is causing my binding I assume. This is my first time messing with brakes. First for everything 😬

Did some research and this looks kinda promising. Type in ebay the following: "for MERCEDES C 43 AMG 1997-2001 REAR L & R Brake Caliper Repair Kit (BRKP648)"

Did you also replace the oil seals inside and just didn’t show it in your video?
@thecarchak6 ай бұрын
Honestly don’t remember but I installed everything that was in the kit from fcp. I’ll look back in the video and see. If it came with it, then I definitely replaced them and sorry if I didn’t film it or cut it out of the vid

@@thecarchakthe kit from FCP Euro is just what MB offers, namely the dust boots. Inside the piston holes are oil seals seated right behind the opening. Those are the seals I’m talking about. Do you remember how many 40/42 mm pistons these brakes have?

8 of them and they’re different sizes

Great video. Would this rebuild help with a dragging front caliper on my E55?
@thecarchak11 ай бұрын
It may, but there’s probably two things that I would look at if your brakes are dragging. So you’re on the right track with maybe the pistons are not retracting like they should but the easiest thing and first thing I would look at would be the guide pins. I’ve had those pins develop corrosion and gunk on body so much that it didn’t allow the brake pads to slide as they should.

What guide pins are you talking about! The ones that hole the brackets in place which hold the pads down? What could cause pistons not to retract internally? Thanks for this video.

are these the same seals for the rear calipers as well? FCP doesnt have anything for the rears that i can see

No they’re not and I couldn’t find them on FCP euro as well but I did track it down somewhere else. I wrote it down somewhere so let me find it and I’ll send it to you.

Would this be the same for the 4matic version (E500) ?
@firstpersonjay5655 Жыл бұрын
I found out … sadly no room on a 4matic to accomplish
@thecarchak Жыл бұрын
Lets start from the beginning, are the calipers frozen locked (where you can't retract the pistons)? If yes, I would just buy a used oem caliper on ebay and rebuild that one with new seals so you can put them on your car. Rear calipers for the W211 e500 4matic are going for $110....

@@thecarchak thanks I was actually referring to the amg calipers on a 4matic but I found they wouldn’t actually fit .

Gotcha! I don’t know if I would go down that road but with enough effort, I’m sure you can make it fit. Heck, there might be already someone out there that sells a bracket that woull allow the amg calipers to fit in the E500. But then you would need new rotors and pads so it’s not a cheap route .
