This is the same carburetor as my Powersmart 170cc i got from home depot. It was also not starting, the fuel would not get to the push knob. I spray starter fluid in it and it starts then dies. Thanks to you Chickanic, i was able to take it apart and know what to do to clean the carb. Now it runs like new. Thanks for ur excellent work. Now i opened the windows and i get the smell of fresh cut grass coming thru my window. :) Cheers.

Many thanks for posting this video.....I never ever serviced a carburetor, so this was a revelation. You made it seem easy, but just to be sure I was doing things right I watched the show three times! First, I removed the bowl and found it was full of a red jelly-like substance which I cleaned up right away. After cleaning where suggested and three teardowns I still wasn't getting any fuel. Then I remembered the part about having the gasket lined up, so a couple of small holes weren't covered. That was it. I reoriented it and on the second pull it started!! It's running too fast, so an adjustment on the black screw should take care of that. You are the best!

@@Dante-vf4sd if I may suggest, gardeners should take better care of your machines. Also, check your tillers operational a couple weeks before you need to plant. Last week a self-propelled MTD mower in my neighborhood was on the curb for free--this exact engine was on it. Would start instantly and run briefly, then die every time right away. Same carburetor, so same cleaning process, and wouldn't you know it, someone had tried to fix it already, just as your customer had. The vent tube to the gas tank had been pulled out, and the first gasket between the back of the air cleaner housing and the carb body was literally laying on the mower deck covered in grass clippings. So a simple carb cleaning, reinstall of the errant gasket, reinstall of the gas tank vent, a thorough cleaning, oil change and blade sharpening, and this is the easiest-starting, most user-friendly bagger mower I've ever seen--and I've seen a few, lol! Oh yeah, and I also installed a shut off valve in the fuel line, which goes into every machine I work on, where one will fit. Thanks for what you do on this channel, it really makes this stuff approachable for folks who want to become ever more handy. ;-)

I repaired my mower just like the unit you showed. But my primer bulb was missed up. So I just finger tighten everything back to find something to use are convert to a primer bulb. Brother fired up mower and mowed with it. Said man that thing is running bad. I am stunned. I reach down and the whole breather unit fell off. I told him if I didn't see you operating it! Wouldn't believed it! How it even ran, is my freaking mind blowing observation! Luckily the 10 mm nuts where contained in breather box. Install the bulb and bolted it back together and ran like a top. Cheap spindle design on trimmer head was my reason I trash it. It got wet and no way to oil it. It would froze up on me, three times. 3 times in a row! Alot has changed since my training on small engines of the late 70's and early 80's. I recently seen a Honda small engine disassemble. That is a great design.

In Spring, if it won't fire up after gas fill and oil level check and 3 seasons in a cold shaded garage, I leave it in direct sun for minimum 1/2 hour to soften lube contacts and put some vapor in the carb. Starts right up. May not work for everyone, or every model, but it's worked fine for Craftsman and Deere for the last 30 years.

Keep this trick I devised years ago for the future when you do carbutator work.. Try this... Heat the plastic tube from the carb cleaner spray with a lighter (about 1/4-1/2 inch from the end. Then pull on each end of the tube to stretch it. This makes the outer/inner tube diameter smaller and more of a pin point. When the melted plastic solidifies, use small wire clippers or nail clippers to snip the tube at the smallest diameter that still provides flow when spraying. The cleaner comes out like a pin point pressure washer and the shrunken plastic tube end fits inside whatever port your spaying thru. You can also do the same to create 90 degree angles in the plastic tube to spray sideways inside long venturi tubes. (like the idle circuit) I used to make/keep custom tubes around for these situations. Hope this makes sense.

Was the fuel line clamp was restored to its proper position? The filter base was installed over an unclamped line. It probably won’t leak much with just gravity feed but its hidden behind the air filter base and will leak eventually after vibration and chemical degradation.

In today’s world where everybody has a camera because everybody has a phone, there’s no reason that before you take something complex apart that you don’t take 20 or 30 pictures of every angle to make sure that when you’re done putting it back together that everything is back where the manufacturer intended for it to be.
@gt09153 жыл бұрын
do that all the time pics of it as is..... and pics of it being taken apart, easy to put back together then.

I did smile, years ago I used to repair push bikes... Mostly very high end... All racing colleagues were happy with my work, especially trueing wheel spokes etc. Every now and again I would get someone ask to repair their bikes.... Mostly left out to rust filthy,. Not been used for years etc!!!.. They wondered why I said no!

wow! yea it sucks to try and clean and fix after some one else. I do enjoy your channel. I find all kinds of little nuggets here like the screen the carb. thank you

That's one of those wonderful "Chonda" motors. Chinese Honda clone, works OK but extremely sensitive to any sort of dirt or fowling in the carb.

I have a generator with the same Chinese engine and carb. It sat for 5 years. Steel fuel tank corroded. Rust chips in the carb. NOW I know how to get it disassembled, so I can clean it! Didn’t know about that screen!!!

Since it ran great after being put back together correctly I wonder why they messed with it in the first place?
@Chickanic3 жыл бұрын
All they said is it only ran once and then wouldn't start the next time they tried to use it. I will DEFINITELY be asking questions when they pick it up. LOL!

My 2020 model lawn edger only ran once then at season's end failed to start. When I took it in to the shop, they checked it over and put fresh gas in it. Started right up. Modern gear seems more sensitive to stale gas than the old stuff.

@@benishborogove2692Do you have the massive increase in ethanol in your fuel like we do here?

That was my exact question.

@@Dante-vf4sd I'm not aware of any changes to the fuel. It is rather closely regulated. Fuel system parts however, are constantly being "improved" to make them cheaper to manufacture.

I use torch tip tool to clean the holes. Let’s you clean all size holes in any carb. Cheap too 😊. Small engine to large. Great videos !

I bought an MTD mower about 15 years ago and it was a total POC. I won't buy any B&D products any more because they break or fall apart after a couple of uses. Sad ending for Craftsman and other former U.S. built quality. But thanks for showing us how to keep them running despite the parts problems!
