Cancer, infections, trauma, or certain diseases can cause it. It is serious and can lead to heart failure or death if untreated. Diagnosis involves physical exams and tests like echocardiograms or chest X-rays. Treatment involves removing the fluid and addressing the underlying cause with either surgery or pericardiocentesis.
