My old Roland ua-25ex interface died on me and I picked up the Focusrite scarlett 4i4. Very happy with it. I run my midi cables from my Korg M50 into the 4i4 and my Shure sm-58 (probably around 40 years old!) into the mic input on the 4i4. I'm using Cakewalk by Bandlab as my DAW. Still pinching myself that this software is free. The equivalent of Sonar platinum which was $499. Really enjoy your videos. Very instructive and I like how your explanations are kept simple and concise. Thumbs up!

Hi, I could use some help, I'm new to recording. I have a midi controller that I want to connect to an audio inteface using the midi IN/OUT. Do I need to buy two midi cables to plug both midi IN and OUT from the controller to the interface or just one cable from the controller to the audio interface. Thanks in advance!
@MusicRepo
@MusicRepo 4 жыл бұрын
If you only want to use the controller to drive virtual instruments in your software you only need one cable (from out of keyboard to in of interface). If you want to capture MIDI tracks in DAW, edit and then play back through controller (assuming it has onboard sounds) you'd need two. It sounds as if you want to use it as a controller so I'm guessing one will do

Hi, I'm so appreciating all of your videos (I've been watching for a few hours for a couple of day) but still not getting my system to work. I've learned a lot though! LOL Here's my set up and what I'm trying to do. Getting tired and weary trying to figure it out. Trying to get set up to teach only through Manycam and Zoom. I don't want to record anything other than a video promo for my classes, which I don't need a DAW for. I have a Focuslite Scarlett Solo. Downloaded the Focuslite control panel with driver (uninstalled it and did it again even to make sure it worked!) Also, downloaded CakeWalk just because I thought having a DAW might make this all work. I have my mic plugged in with the 48v button on. It's working just fine with the gain light. I have a Yamaha P-125. It has a gray USB plug that goes to the back that I learned was the MIDI cord (from you) and is also supposed to be the audio as well, I heard you say on another video. I have the Focusrite plugged into my computer and the gray Yamaha cord plugged into a hub. I tried plugging both into the computer and still nothing so I don't think it's a hub issue since everything else works on the hub. I choose Input as the Focusrite and Output as the Focusrite on both my computer and Manycam. In the FR controller I have it set to "air" and "line" (there is "instrument" but it didn't work either). If I click on the tab that says, "Output routing" it says, "Output routing is not supported on this device. I'm 6 hours in on trying to figure this out. LOL I've been running Manycam and zoom for over 3 years now so good there. Just can't hear the keyboard other than what the mic pics up. grrrrrrrrrrrr Question is, do I need the stereo lines with the MIDI cord to make it work? I have to buy them but before I do I thought I'd ask. I REALLLY want to throw in the towel but can't! HELP! Please!!! 🤣✌💕

Some lessons are learned the hard way ! A question please: Focusrite Scarlett models come bundled with Focusrite Red 2 & Red 3 Plug-in Suite, and Softube Time & Tone Bundle. Are these plug-ins compatible with Reaper please ?

Thank you. Excellent tutorial. Jane, I have a question. In the video you set Input 1 for vocal and Input 2 for keyboard. As the signal to the DAW comes from the USB cable from the Audio interface, is there some sorts of mapping so that the DAW could work out that the one USB signal actually included 2 channels: one from the Input 1 and the other from input 2?

Nice video. You teach patiently and clearly. Thank you. My issue is that I use the same interface and set up (but with guitar instead of keyboards most of the time). The guitar (or piano) channel is fine but the vocal channel is polluted by sounds from the instrument. All is well and good until I try to process the vocal signal in my DAW and discover how cluttered/dirty up that channel really is. Is there a way to get two CLEAN signals? I don’t think there is

Thank you for the video. I wanted to ask, is there anyway to record stereo for piano performance and then also an input for vocal? For this, would you need an audio interface with at least 3 mic input? Would the vocal mic be mono or stereo?

Great job as always! Was that Reaper you were using? I got myself a Scarlet 2i2 and then realised that I could only record mic and piano in mono at the same time. Wish this video had been around then. I replaced a Behringer U-Phoria UMC22 as it was giving hell to use on my Windows 10 - driver issues it working well on the mac then it started to play too. Anyhow replaced, Still have it. Could I use the UMC22 and the Scarlet 2i2 at the same time (if I can get it working with just the mic) say Ableton for the Scarlet and Audacity for the UMC22 on the same computer?

I tried your piano in one outline with the exact same wires and it just does not sound as good quality as pluging the piano as 2 ako left and right in the INST ONE AND TWO mic one... which means can't use my mic as u other slots for it so will have to get a usb mic instead right? Very informative video. I have a Casio Privia that has a line out L(mono) and R and I have used two TS cables from piano to Focusrite 6i6 (Gen 1), however, used the line inputs on the back of Focusrite. When I play the piano the sound is hardly heard from Yamaha HS-5 (as monitors). I had to crank up the full volume on the Scarlet MixControl for the line inputs as well as on the piano while keeping the monitor knob at 3/4 and now I can hear. I felt this is too odd that I have to increase the full volume on the piano and scarlet mixer. Any help in this regard will be appreciated.

Really clear video ! @ 5'28" you talk about the "Line outputs". Do you mean that we need an audio interface like the one you showed to make it work ? Because my numeric piano is a yamaha p515. I putted a mono cable in the "L/L+R" output linked to my Focusrite Solo, but the sound is not as clear as the original. The quality is like muffled. Does it mean that my focusrite is not compatible for that kind of piano ?

Wow! I've been confused on what cable to use to record my piano which has only headphone out, but you explained it perfectly. TRS end is to my keyboard's output and the TS end is to my interface input, have I got it right? Please someone confirm it so I can finally record myself playing my keyboard and avoid buying wrong cable.
