Ok guys, I may have found a solution. So on your android (I have a galaxy s8), go to your settings > accounts and backup > restore data Select the messages option, click restore and you should be good to go!!! I was missing messages from only the past 10 days, but they werent important, but hopefully this helps a little!!!

Misleading title. This only backs up data presently on the phone. It CAN get deleted items, but it makes you ROOT your phone. If this is done, it voids any warranty on the phone. What a waste of my time. Turns out that my Samsung acct on my phone had backed up all my text messages.
