486, 386, Pentium Pro's go for 20 to 90 euro's each here in Europe. Highly sought after by retro games, also the motherboards. Those Altera boards that were daisy chained on the top with cables are data acquisition boards which are still used in older industrial SEM microscopes and medical EEG equipment, worth about 500 euro's each in unknown condition (refurbed up to 1200...). Some would say that it's old ISA crap but these microscopes cost 250 to 350k, the dedicated hardware is still maintained by a lot of specialized companies.

Usually we would send our e-waste to China and they would pay kids to use these acids on our scrap so they can scrape by, but lately China has started refusing all our waste. This is a ton of work. But if you have some old dead hard drives lying around, open them up and play with the insides! There are some very strong magnets in there (neodymium) as well as some copper, and the platters are usually coated in something like Platinum (although a very, very thin layer of it). Did the math and found out that after all that's involved and the small amount of gold retrieved, the cost would not be worth the effort. Maybe back in 2008-2009 when gold was around $2000 /ounce this process would be worth the effort, but not today at Gold prices today.
@AlexAyoub_6 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I did the math, too, and he is still making around $200 in profit if he is getting high quality (24K) gold out of the ordeal. Frankly, if you are doing this regularly enough and buying bulk in your acids (none of these materials are expensive at all), you could increase profits fairly nicely. Also, $2000 an ounce comes out to be around $70.50 a gram, even at ~$40 a gram today, the returns are not bad.
@berniecruz84056 жыл бұрын
@@AlexAyoub_ I don't know how much you earn hourly, but all the work involved just to get out $70 a gram? Bottom line, it comes down to how many hours it takes. Time is money and money takes time. So, for me, if this whole process is not producing $100/hr, then for me at least, this would be a waste of time.
@johnterpack39406 жыл бұрын
@@berniecruz8405 According to the calculator I just checked he got $263 worth of gold out of that batch. My two questions are, how long did it take and how much did he leave behind? If I could pull down $200+ guaranteed daily with just a few hours of actual labor I'd be all over it. I don't get that kind of guarantee with my real job. I'm certain the process in the video could be streamlined and I'm certain he left gold behind because he didn't crack open any of the ICs, which use gold just like CPUs do. There might have been $300, or more, in gold in those PCs. He also didn't even try to extract copper. It's not worth as much as gold, obviously. But it's much more abundant in a computer. I'd go after every penny I could get if I were to try this.

Pasi123 first of all that's not rare, its just an electronic waste which needs to be recycled at some point of time in life. And that ✌really small amount of gold✌ will cost you more than $250 or maybe $300 depending on the place.

You will need to find older computers then that for those old chips. Idk maybe you might find the smaller INTEL chips in computers from around that time.
