This is GREAT!!! Thank you for providing this 'Hope'! This is exactly what I was hoping to find from GoPro (but THAT's a Joke). I look forward to trying Rolling Back the Updates and making sure the Controller & Drone Update Sequentially/Together (which is what I suspect Created this issue). i.e. Most people affected report that their 'Drone was in Storage', and likely not Paired at the time the Controller Updated itself (my Theory anyway). Will follow up (hopefully) on my Success Story with getting my Karma Flying Again! Thank You! Thank You!! Thank You!!! (And to GoPro, I offer a similar 3x 'Thank You', only that the first word is a FOUR letter word (Fill in the Blank).

My karma controller is up to date but my drone isn't pairing I tried this method but I keep on getting the same update version on my controller (2.50.1) I have downloaded firmware version 2.00.00 and I've been trying to reflash it but I am not sure if that is possible or if I am doing it wrong. If anyone can explain how to downgrade to a lower firmware update, it would be great. Thanks.

Ok, so using this video and some of the files provided I am now able to get updates and have upgraded to 2.50.1 and I am able to pair, have gps/compass. I am going to take her for a test flight. I have taken a backup on my 1.40.x firmware and my final 2.50.1 and will upload them as well as how I got from 1.40.x to where I am now.

Aloha David. I don't appear to be able to message you directly. I've gone through the flashing process successfully, tried 1.11, 2.00, 2.50, and 2.50.1. 1.11 just bootloops (makes me think I have a newer, incompatible hardwareconfig), but the remaining 3 boot successfully yet never get past pairing mode. I would love to pick your brain on what additional small actions you took to get the drone to be receptive to pairing, or get in a mode beyond the alternating red/green pairing stage. @Donovan, thank you SO much for all the work you've done. this tool setup is a major milestone

i figured out my issue hope it helpps you as well. i tested out a few different usb c cables until one actually worked. when the controller 1st gets plugged in the computer will beep just like if you added a external hdd. once i confirmed it was connected with the beep, i powered it off an pressed the star/stop and landing buttons and then i was able to flash it.

Hey Donovan. My controller version says 1.5. I have a gopro hero 7 black and the controller is not recognizing the camera. It says camera not found. Is there a solution for it? Should I try updating the controller?

If you have tried reseating the camera in the stabilizer, and the stabilizer in the drone, then all that I could think to would be trying different software versions on the controller and/or manually updating the firmware on the GoPro camera.

Thank you for this useful video! The latest and last version for the controller is v2.50.01, which i could not find on the internet. I am not able to login to my controller which I think should not interfere with me using the drone. Also, I have read v2.50.01 causes pairing issues.

Two days ago I discovered that I have essentially zero karma. She probably never took to the air. Because when the controller was turned on, it started looking for the drone, and when it found it, it offered to update, but after about 20 seconds from the start of the update, the drone started flashing red and interrupted the process. So I could only choose a wifi network and try in vain to update it. When I saw your video, there was hope, I installed the android firmware first, and then tested other firmware, but after installing any of them, the controller started to fail. Maybe it's worth waiting before trying to use the controller, so I installed 2.50.1 from under the bosemanx video and I'll probably leave the controller until the morning, because besides the gopro and karma inscriptions, it only gives a black screen. By the way, when I tried to return to the original version I saved, the controller began to catch the Wi-Fi signal very badly, and even if I coped with it, then nothing happened at all. I don't really believe in success, but you still gave me hope)

In the morning the controller started to work better, I was able to log into my gopro account and I was offered to update the controller, which I did when trying to pair with a drone, the controller apparently saw it and gave out a text (apparently from 2016) stating that due to problems with power loss, gopro recalls all drones

I did get the driver installed - the step I was missing that went really quickly in the video is that I needed to click on any of the devices in the list and then go up to the Action menu and it was all the same after that.

Great job with what you've done. It must have taken quite some time to work this out. However, there are a crap load of people that seem to be having issues with their drone and controllers after they update the firmware. Their is a connectivity issue. The drones wont pair with the controllers. Is it possible to be able to downgrade the controller firmware to a previous version? Or to be able to reflash the controller to the previous firmware? For example after drone owners flashed their drone with version 2.5.01 the drone ceased to pair - but was fine under 2.5.0 - give it some thought. Thanks

I have a drone that is stuck unable to pair and I am trying to find a solution (not much luck there though). For the controller update issue we would need a system partition dump from someone who is still on the older Karma controller firmware. Then that can be dumped and reflashed on other controllers similar to what's shown in the video. If you know anyone please try it and share! : D

@@studio1410 No matter what version it is, try to avoid connecting it to the internet. You can attach it to your computer and follow the tutorial up to about 3:10 (just perform the system image dump) and you should be able to flash that system dump to other karma controllers (about 5:15 in the video) and they will theoretically be on the same version.

@@studio1410 Just in case, perform the same dump on any controllers that you are flashing with the older software, a brick isn't as fun as a working controller (even if it has the older software on it : P)

I have spent some time trying to do this. I do not think it is possible. The Karma Controller software runs as an android app + launcher and does not seem to have any separately stored configs or anything I can modify without source code. Sorry, I will keep trying, but it seems unlikely.

Just bought a used GoPro Karma Drone. I didn't know anything about Karma issue before I bought it. Luckily it seemed (not quite sure) that the controller is pairing fine with the drone. Firmwares seemed to be updated to Hero6 2.10, Stabilizer 2.00, Controller & Drone are both on 2.50.1 (yes 2.50.1, not 2.50.01). This is the firmware info I got off the controller. I haven't calibrate the drone nor test fly it yet. Just want to take my time to learn more without making any mistakes to lose the pairing. The drone was not factory reset yet and still retain previous owner account settings. Does anyone know if factory reseting the drone will lose the pairing?

Resetting the controller will mean you have to repair with the drone, but the pairing issue seems to arise when updating the drone/controller (it might be a bug in the update process), I haven't heard anything about it coming up when you reset the controller. You should be good for a reset, good luck!

@@donovanlawson2848 After some restarts the keys are working and so the virtual keyboard. The downside is the internal memory free space only 500 mb.

Hi, my problem is that the controller can't recognize the hero5 camera. This drone is a unused unit that was given to me on 2018 as a replacement, that one time that the karma lost connection with the gps and controller and went flying to Narnia. Already tried v1,11 v2 and v2.5.

One doubt, the controller have to be connect all the time with usb cable on the computer? My controller every time I have to restart, he restarts himself. I don’t know if is the battery is not full charged… I made it until the second part of the Android system in the controller but the last step not complete… the power shell runs the last command but in the controller keep running the android…

It should not be necessary for the controller to stay connected to the PC after flashing. I would recommend making sure the controller is fully charged before attempting a flash.

Thanks for your efforts on this! I was able to flash the controller and update to v2.50.01. Now able to fly again. I do have a question, my green “nav” or “position” lights are not illuminated during normal operations. They are functioning normally for all other modes, (pairing, power up, follow me etc.) but are dark when flying. The red lights are fully operational in all conditions/modes. Any ideas how to get the green lights to illuminate during flight? Thanks again for your hard work!

I recommend flashing the v2.00.0 image as people have had the most success with it. Just download it from the description, and flash it in place of the final88.img.

Hi Donovan, thank you so much for this but when I went to write the final88.img, i didnt realize the directory had changed to the drivers folder and then everything went wacky. I changed directory back to update tool, but i think I screwed it up. Im not blaming just wondering if you can help from this poiint

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. The command .update mread store system normal 0x3f682f00 dumpsystem.img ora .update partition system dumpsystem.img works. When you type the .update partition command, the system final88.img does not go any further. Downloaded files. I do everything as in the movie. Although two of the three commands work, nothing is installed on the controller. After turning it on, I still have the latest software.

Greetings! Sadly, this method is very unlikely to work on the DJI Mini (or any DJI drones for that matter). They use a completely different processor and architecture. You can still try, it shouldn't hurt anything, but is very unlikely to work. I wish I had better news : /

So what do I do. I was able to download the moderate package and then return it to stock. Now what? When I uploaded the new software it was talking about a phone and I can’t log in and no keyboard. So what am I supposed to do with the new software package

You should set it up as a normal android device. I am not sure why you don't have a keyboard, you may have to reflash.

Flashing it as demonstrated in the video allows you to repurposed the controller as an android device to run standard android apps on it, like KZbin and Moonlight Game Stream. You can also flash previous versions of the stock OS using the same method if you are having drone related issues.

Your controller should be on the version number of whatever image you flashed. Something must have gone wrong during the process. Have you tried flashing a lower image?

You can follow the instructions in the first part of the video for dumping the system partition (the part where you "backup" the system partition) and share the resulting dumpsystem.img however you want. Be sure not to connect the controller to WiFi though or it might auto update. Good luck!

Given that you can make a copy of the current Karma boot before making this change, is it possible for someone who was able to do the 2.50.1 update to post that image file? I have the downloaded .zip updater, but using this process it is not possible to apply it. Hoping someone could help out and just allow me to restore to that updated firmware. Thanks

Managed to pair drone to controller and got it working but powered off/on still connected intermittently not seen drone but still paired. Just got to keep trying ,charging battery now and try again tomorrow

@@kevinscott3081 The USB-C port on the front of the drone appears to be a host-only port that will interface with only the stabilizer/camera (great idea though). The problem with yours might be the stabilizer hardware/firmware; what happens when you try to connect by swiping up on the controller home screen?

Also downgraded the controller to 2.0 from rende vous file, but no luck on pairing with the drone, it was frustrating because the drone was only used a few times before it was working good then suddenly not pairing anymore. The issue just began when the drone was updated then cannot be paired anymore since 2018. Then, after awhile i tried the final88.img in android which is also working fine with my controller, is there any updated version on this one or any suggestion where i can find this type of file? Can't find other android in .img file like the one in your link. Props to your work!!! 🤙

@@vergel7003 Theoretically, any ROMs that run on the AMLogic S805 should be able to run on the controller with some tweaking, but any other OS will likely still not fix the drone : /

No, sorry. The GorPro app is proprietary and will not run on the new custom firmware.

Later I found out that some people got their drones flying by using the same method to flash older GoPro controller software (not the custom software shown in the video). It allows you to run standard android apps on the controller. For instance, KZbin, or Asphalt 9 (a racing game). The stock OS is Android, it just will not allow you to launch normal Android apps.
