How To Refoam Speakers - Cerwin Vega Refoam (VS-100)

Today we repair some Cerwin Vega speakers with the dreaded foam wrought. These are the VS-100 speakers. They turn out to be very good sounding and performing speakers.

Would have appreciated more description, like what tool was used to remove the old foam and why there appeared to be two applications of glue....

I am building a diy set of these speakers. I have all the drivers and crossovers. I have the cabinet specs, which I have already built. I cant find the size for the bass port anywhere. Can you help me?

I have the vs120 and have the ports out of the box as the glue bond gave up. Are you building the vs100 10 inch speakers? as the 120's are 12" speakers as you probably know. But if it will help I can give you measurements of mine. two in each cabinet.

@@davidbryanwoodworksandmore that would be awesome, but too late. Finished em' last week. Found a pic of the back, it was about as wide as the back plate. A dude had one for sale on eBay, looked at pics and guessed on the length. Turned out good as far as I can hear. VS-100 are the 10'. Thanks though. I'm gonna post them on my channel as soon as I can get a decent recording, they are in our maintenance shop at work.

I know this is a very late reply but perhaps it helps someone. The bass port in the back of the speaker has a 3" diameter just below the back plate. PM if you would like a photo. These are my absolute favorite speakers and thanks to the OP for making a foam repair kit

@@PerroLeal thanks. They turned out great. Though not the actual boxes, I think my math was good. I use them at work on a very cheap Subuck amp because it was all I could find to fit in my locker and it was cheap. I bought my daughter a really nice little SMSL a300 inegrated amp, took it in and tried them on that and they sounded beautiful. They finally had an amp that could give them some clean power. I'm gonna buy me one of those SMSL a300 for my locker. It just seemed like a really good match. Truly, those speakers sound good enough for the living room, but I have SL-15. I know they aren't old schools but they are pretty awesome speakers. Hard to beat with anything I've found in the price range. They are new (relatively) and pretty too, the wife likes them. My only real knock on them is the crossover which I am planning on upgrading. I think quality caps will bring out their best.
