Worked on my European SCPH-77004! It now plays Japanese PS1 and PS2 games. I picked "Europe (Multi-7)".

Great video, and easy to follow! I installed a modbo 5.0 chip in my system, and pretty much skipped the ulaunchelf portion of the video, as I already had the app already installed on a flash drive. Other then that I followed the video, and now my system is region free, YAY! P.S. video audio is a little low. Something to keep in mind for the future. 😘

Can confirm this worked with the PS2 NTSC-U/C 9000 slim series. I did have to rinse and repeat running MechaPwn (the latest version of MechaPwn 3.0.4) 2 times. Meaning I unplugged it and ran it again until I got the menu to run it as American Multi Region. Hopefully that helps if you're scratching your head. PS1 disc games from other regions work too! And there is no hack necessary for the disc cover :-)

Super stupid question. But i followed your steps and thank you for making this video. Everything worked but i put a Japanese PS1 game and it's just a black screen and doesn't seem to be loading. Does Meach pwn not working with PS1 games?

I'm like 87% sure it probably maybe won't. Alot of stuff like this has to be in English or the code itself needs to be written in the native language. I'm not really sure why it works like that but it does (usually). I just barney style it to myself like this. It's pretty much the same as you trying to read a language you're not familiar to. Yk they're words you just can't get what it's saying. And if it does work then it's buggy and prone to breaking. It's similar to homebrewing a 3ds. I had one where all the homebrew stuff was in English but my console was set to Spanish so the code didn't really stick. Or it was the other way around.

I can confirm that it does. I created the Free McBoot memory card on U.S. system and installed MechaPwn on the Japanese system. It plays U.S. and Japanese PS2 games with no problem. It just will not allow a Japanese system to play U.S. PS1 games.

Us consoles are better because they have the same region as Japan but I live in australia sonce its Pal not NTSC it complicates thing epically how their more ps2 games that were not available for pal and brand new ones are us version you can find more than pal

Ok, first off, I'm not super tech savvy, but you instructions were very clear and seemed easy enough for me to follow along with. However, I think I botched something. When I hit circle to run the FMCB Installer elf file, I get kicked out to the browser menu with the memory card icon and disc icon. Any thoughts or guidance would be greatly appreciated, lol. Again, great video, hopefully it will help me to play my British Masters of the Universe game, lol.

Do you think you could help with a problem? I followed all these directions, but when i get to booting mechapwn, it just says my id is unknown, and to report. so i tried using the newest dev build instead, and while it still says my id is unknown, it gives me the option to boot from nvram. I have the scph 70000 model, granted it is japanese. Tho i saw other people here reported it worked on those consoles (mine is currently set to english). is this a mechapwn problem that i should put on the github, or do you think i could be doing something wrong?

inside the program mechapwn you are able to switch the regions to the EU aka PAL there should be list shown

It is absolutely ridiculous how many great PS1/2 games skipped PAL regions, mainly JRPGs (I am Australian) and I didn't want to have to buy an American PS2 and games because of shipping costs.

I did this with a Japanese ps2 and everything installed perfectly but when I try and load up a game like you did at 8:30 it recognizes it as a ps2 disc and when I go in its a black screen for like 15 seconds and then it just goes back to the screen from before with the disc and ps2 memory card. The game does not want to load

...While i was burning in imgburn... i bought dvd-r from verbatim for 70 cent from local store i was burning iso file i even checked if its right file i set up lowest possible speed im dvd info which was 3x then i waited waited and instead of window that its ready or finished it just ejected disc then i pit it back after that it said in log device ready ....,comparing... (probably file )and said layouts didnt match...pls help is it bc of my device or what

Would this only work on playing games via usb? Or would I be able to use discs from other regions on it? Like could I play a uk exclusive game on it?

I messed up and hope you could help. Initially everything booted up great but I accidentally downloaded the MechaPawn stuff first instead of the FMCB installer and naturally didn't get the same menu and it did not work once I tried reading a disc. Now when I put the disc back in it says it cannot read the disc. Is there some reset I could do or did I just mess it up forever?

Yes this method shown is for people that want to use a physical games that's not from the same region that the console is manufactured in.

I have free mcboot on my PlayStation 2, had a co-worker that knows a lot about computers set it up for me. It runs great but all of my pal region games seem to just play in black and white. All of my Japanese games play normal. I don't know a lot about this situation but what can I do to fix it.

Does this work on a PS2 with a DMS4 chip with ToxicOS already installed? Also does the region unlock mean burned DVD's can be played from any region or is it just original disks?

I'm unsure of the use with the mod chip, The only use case for the regional unlock is for the use of games within its specific chosen region, have not tested with burned disk but likey to assume that it will work

You need a SPCH-5000X series or later console. One way you can do is get a hard drive and dump your imported discs to that hard drive either on a computer or on the PlayStation 2 with HDL Game Installer

Would work best if FreeMCBoot is installed onto a memory car that isn't already modded, you could uninstall Mc2sio and then install FreeMCBoot and then reinstalling Mc2sio onto the memory card and adding a shortcut for it in the main menu

Yeah, I did it with the 77004 version, but I changed mine to US region and it works smoothly, the PS2 logo looks weird when starting a Pal game, but it works
