This is the smoothiest rehouse I've seen. My Ts go left when I direct them to go right. They will go around the cup instead of inside of it. After several cuss words later and the finger given to me by my Ts they finally cooperate 🤣

I'm still working on being that calm during rehouses. The slings are fast but not nearly as intimidating lol. My OBT juvie did three laps around my tub before he slowed down enough to cup him lol. I was actually really proud of myself for not panicking. Loved this video

I rehoused my juvenile OBT earlier today. Very laid back, walked calmly into the catch cup then into the new enclosure. I love OBTs, as I’ve now got 3 of them. Their enclosures are set up as arboreal, and they all seem to be very calm. I’ve raised them from 1cm slings.

I’m a newbie in the hobby myself with my first T being a chill/sassy juvie Brazilian White Knee and I’m in the process of making a catch cup by recycling a “Simply” bottle. I have yet to rehouse her and luckily I have plenty of time to prepare with the help of your channel! Thank you for sharing this video!

Just rehoused my Pterinochulus murinus (usambara) last week, was easy. I set out my catch cups and brushes, grabbed my tongs and grabbed the heavy webbing she had done to start finding where she was and she bolted and took a flying leap into the new enclosure, close the lid and done lol

At first it was most stressful part of hobby, but now I enjoy seeing my Ts growing and thriving being ready to move to bigger home

One thing I do, that seems to help me: I only light up the enclosure I am taking them out of, and try my best to leave the new home darker. This plays into a T's natural photosensitivity, and encourages them to get away from the light, into a more shaded space. I rehoused a subadult S. calceatum this way from a deli cup, with no bolting, and very little threat display. I know that is impractical for video purposes, and photographs, but it's something to keep in mind.

I just got my last 4 tarantulas from micro wilderness. They were fast and shipped very well with a heating pack for the cold weather! Very good prices as well that compete with the very best tarantula sellers. I got an OBT, Rear horned baboon, salmon pink bird eater, and a golden blue legged baboon. All slings. I’m very pleased with them!! I suggest ordering more than one or two since the shipping for confirmed live is 60 bucks lol

Awesome video bro! Couldn’t have been better timing. I’m expecting my first old world today that should have been here by 12 but got held up in transit unfortunately. It’s a female 3” MONOCENTROPUS BALFOURI. Just what I need right a bolty T delivered late maybe even a day late that I have to rehouse. This video made me feel better but I still wish Richard could be by my side lol. But anyway thanks for everything you do bro. You never know how a video can help someone and look it genuinely will help me today or tomorrow when I rehouse my first old world, already being nervous. Much love and peace ✌🏽

Rehouse story: I just moved and to prepare for the tarantula transfer, I sat a box aside with all of them in (the shelves had to be packed and I wasn't ready to pack the Ts until the moving day. Moving day comes. I'm at the new house and my dad brings in a box from the passenger seat. I surprisingly say "Oh you got the tarantulas! Thanks!" He gives a 😳 look and says he had no clue he drove 30 minutes with them right next to him. Haha

I love your channel. It’s very informative. It would be awesome if you could do a video on how to keep the correct humidity for different species at every size while keeping good ventilation so mold won’t grow. If you have one on this subject I would love to check it out. I’ve had a number of tarantulas die and every person I talk to says it’s because of mold or humidity.

well, I am new to this hobby, and.. I got second tarantula, a Tliltocatl albopilosus. I believed these were more well mannered but, as soon as i started luring her into her new enclosure, she went underneath the catch cup and bolted under the refrigerator. It was terrifying, after a good 30 minutes of my brother screaming we got her back. Luckily I put her in a decent sized enclosure so she will be fine for the next few molts.

Thank you for the video, Richard. However, I have owned three tarantulas in the last year: bumba horrida, GBB and Xenesthis sp. Light. What I can say is that my GBB is going to teleport whenever I move the enclosure, let alone opening it. It will bolt to God and back before I can even realise what's happening. The other two are quite chill (even the X, taking in consideration those long legs)

While I don’t have tarantulas I love watching videos on them. I live in a small apartment that spays for pest insects. ( roaches, ants) so I know that would not be good for them. I know KZbin suggested spider/T videos after I looked up information on recluse spiders . The rare times that I see a spider in my apt, I catch and release them back outside. The pesticides used to kill the roaches and ants probably would kill them so I give them a better chance at living when I place them outside. I have a greater respect for them by watching videos like these.

@@ANTHONYLIVETV and thank you! Sorry I was distracted when replying. The left one is a stump and the right one is completely gone. I’m thinking it couldn’t have made it to the size it is if it was reoccurring so that’s why I’m guessing it lost them in last molt or they were damaged by tong feeding or something . But yeah, I’m trying to feed it every day with super worms that I’m pre killing and cutting up in a bunch of Spots where the juices can kind of easily come out and it can get some in its mouth parts. It has a great feeding response and tries so hard to kill but you can see how frustrating it is for the poor thing because it can’t bite. Every time I feed it I cry. I went ahead and contacted our local exotic vet just in case because if it keeps losing weight and doesn’t look like it’s going to molt I’ll probably have it put down, I refuse to let any animal suffer, but again, I’m gonna try all I can first. One week and I’m already super attached 😭

It's funny. I always kind of over-prepare, assuming that the worst might happen (and im sure would if I DIDN'T prepare). And then the rehouse almost always goes very smoothly. I just tonight moved a small Poky and an H Mac. I used the bag method. But neither one of them got bitey or particularly flighty. Went right where I wanted them to once I convinced them to come out of their initial containers.

Richard, I got my N. incei about 3 weeks ago. I read that it is recommended to provide them with about 4 inches of substrate, but that seemed a little exaggerated to me, so I put in about half that (the entire bag that came with my enclosure). Now, I see that T keepers do put in so much substrate. Van Horne (my T) seems to be thriving just hiding along one wall of the enclosure behind the plant that I have in there, but I wonder whether or not I should increase the substrate (of which I have a bag, but it is something different from that which came with the enclosure to begin with), and how substrate change would affect Van Horne. I appreciate your thoughts. So far, I have been paying attention to your videos and have seen great success.

I like straws because I can use them to lightly blow a small amount of air at the tarantula to get them to move in the direction I need. Just enough to persuade it to go where it need it to. Just make sure you don't drool and spit at your T LOL! Edit: I can't stress enough when I say a light amount. Like a small baby breath. Super gentle. And that's not every time, just when a little extra convincing is needed.

@tarantulacollective

Yes they do, an typically I leave it alone. I only clean up what's easily accessible that doesn't disturb their webbing. It isn't like reptile poop that needs constantly cleaned up. But if it becomes an issue you can add springtails to the enclosure and they will take care of it.

I need help… I just got my first tarantula , juvenile GBB from pet store and i have it in a large zilla micro habitat ( large terrestrial ) …has some small cross ventilation… I’m using the zoomed creature soil for substrate… the humidity is very high in 80s .. So I took the tarantula out and heated up the substrate in oven and microwave .. and now it just made it worse because now it’s fogging up the bottom of the enclosure and at 90% .. will it just die down after a few days ? Should I worry or should it be ok after a while ?… I ditched the heat lamp they gave me and the screen mesh lid enclosure .. so for now I’m just sticking with something safe like the micro habitat . I don’t wanna keep rehousing her .. especially since I just got her yesterday ….no heat source just keeping it at 68 to 72 F

I got my very first tarantula yesterday, it’s a Mexican redknee. I found your videos and I’ve watched a few of them. I was wondering how to sex it. The breeder I got it from said they haven’t sexed it yet. But I know typically females are larger than males. I don’t know what a typical male size is, anyway, it’s body and what I believe is what is called their abdomen is slightly large, it’s legs are fairly symmetrical in size relative to the rest of it, but I’m aware of how old it is too
