thanks for the video. one other tip. When using a long breaker bar, you are applying not only a turning force but also a shearing force. To minimise the shearing force, get a trolley jack and jack it up to support a breaker bar with an A short extension and an impact socket. this will keep the extension socket level with the nut or stud and maximise the turning force. as you are applying effort, hit the end of the breaker bar. always wera good face protection in case anything breaks at this point. keep the videos coming

@cantletherdiediy10503 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bob! Have you soaked them in PB Blaster? You can use a pipe on your ratchet drive to increase your leverage to get those last puppies off. If they are stubborn, you can let the PB Blaster soak in over night. You can also heat the lug nut up with a torch and then shoot cool PB blaster on it. The rapid heating and then sudden cooling usually breaks them free. If you use heat, be sure to focus the heat on the lug nut only.Do not damage your rims with heat. Good Luck! Don't give up. You Got This!

He is how I fixed the swollen lug nut problem on 2015 Ford Edge SEL. I used a 1” Hole Dozer without the Pilot Bit from Home Depot made by Milwaukee. This fits over the lug it’s a tight fit but it will cut the cap off close to where the cap is crimped to the actual lug nut. Remember it’s a two piece construction. Once the cap is off I used a 20mm Deep Impact Socket 6 point to remove the Lug Nut I the replaced all the lug with a solid chrome 19mm lug nut from Driven Product in Kent, WA GREAT customer service I spoke to Jamie who made sure I was ordering the correct replacement lug. They are made in USA.

It's not on a rock. The wheel is chalked to prevent movement but yes... taking it off the jack stands would help prevent wheel movement. However, it would not help with lug nut removal. The lug nut was internally seized on the stud and swollen. thanks for your comment.

Old Lady here. My nuts got swollen too (that is what the Ford Dealership told me today)! Question to all the manliness I have been watching on KZbin… did any of you manly men contact Corporate about this horrible problem? Because I do not want to be the Old Lady by the side of the road in the middle of the desert with swollen nuts! Y’all need to contact Corporate about the “swollen nut problem”. Think about your poor Granny sitting on the side of the road in a snow storm because no one can loosen her swollen nuts to change her tire. Please be the hero and contact Ford. 😮
@cantletherdiediy10502 жыл бұрын
I believe we are heroes Diana. We are freely informing people about this problem, how to avoid it or correct it with very little expense. Ford already knows and has known for a long time. You said it yourself regarding your Ford dealership. Ford Corporate is regularly in contact with their dealerships regarding the servicing of their vehicles and investigate how and why their product fails. It's the research and development side of their business. Other companies such as Dorman also know, and have known for a long time as they have re-engineer the lug nut, manufactured it and now sell the replacement nuts to earn a profit. Mechanics also know and they charge additional labour to remove the swollen nuts and mark-up the replacement nuts to earn an additional profit. Ford Corporate, knowing about the issue, has performed a cost benefit analysis of the issue and has chosen not to issue a product recall notice. It is more profitable for them to have no response. This issue helps to generate service for their dealerships because people can not change their tires themselves. Dealerships get to charge extra labour, sell more of the same lug nuts and they earn additional profit. Did you know dealerships earn more on service than they do selling new vehicles? Ford also hires service technicians to watch internet sites, channels, videos like this one to gather information and to manage negative publicity regarding their products. I think we are heroes as we are helping people out by letting them know these lug nuts are prone to fail and suggest that they may want to change them before they do fail and leave them stranded. This information results in less profit for Ford, dealerships, mechanics, tow truck operators, auto parts retailers, and it is offered free to you. Thanks for your comment Diana, you seem to be a really caring person. I like that. Keep it up!

I have two that have sheered in half and are the aluminum 7 spline safety ones. 3 safety tools later and nothing. Extraction set and nothing. I'm currently drilling them out. I need a good set of cobalt bits. Once I get enough drilled out I'm going to grab it again with the extractor and hopefully break the stud out. I'll replace them and do a pad swap while I'm there. I will never buy cheap lugs... Ever again.

thought I was going to see Mr. Vicegrip appear to have a go at pulling that cap off when the cap is bad it lets water/salt to get in the threads but with the cap open or pulled off PB Blaster can also get to the threads! think tooltrucks have in between socket sizes like 18.5 or 19.5 mm. for putting on the nut when the cap is gone also watch out some sockets are not deep enough broach to hold the whole tall hex part of the lug even when the cap is still healthy-such shallow broach might even be on a deep impact socket think old Craftsman deeps had a full depth broach--maybe also Wright?
