This video was perfect for me. I have a 1949/50s vintage house with perhaps the original Yale front door lock which was a black version of yours with flat-head screws. The unscrewing of the lock cylinder and removing the split hook spindle worked just as you said, and I got the piece out without breaking the door. Thanks!

That one is a little hard to diagnose from a KZbin comment. I would ask that you send pictures to [e-mail] with a quick description. What will likely end up happening is the removal of hinge pins and opening the door from the hinge side.

I enjoyed the video it give me hope that it could be removed. I tried to reassemble it but as i try to insert lock bolt key there are 2 metal pins obstructing key hole for dead bolt latch. I have exactly the same set up. How do get pass the metal pins? Thank you

My cylinder won't on turn I even pulled the lock set screw all the way out I think the paint maybe adhere to the edge of the cylinder did you strip back the paint on that door for the same reason

Is it possible to change the Mortise into individual deadbolt and knob style? I'm trying to add a SmartLock deadbolt and having a problem with matching up the Mortise with the smartlock. Any suggestions?

You have a bit of woodworking to do. You're going to need to fill the mortise cut with a dutchman (a slightly tapered plug of wood fitted to the void of the mortise). If you are not confident in your carpentry, I would suggest someone who handles cabinetry can handle this job.

As long as you can loosen the set screw and grab purchase on the cylinder, it should unscrew. I'd does not have to be specifically unscrewed via the slot, that's just the easiest place to apply torque.

Got it! It took a bit of brute strength, but I was able to pull it out. Someone had jury rigged a replacement of the pin.

That would be a Corbin knob. I know we have 2 of a slightly smaller diameter for a 20 thread/inch spindle. Your spindle may be a different thread count. If so, let me know. I may have a one off in stock. Also, just to head off a call, since these are only available in old stock, Corbin-Russwin will likely just send you to me.

Sorry for how long this took to reply. If it's still an issue, loosening the set screw and using the key to remove the cylinder should still work without the screws in place and the knob(s) off. Just an important point, DON'T PUT THE KEY ALL THE WAY IN. Only a partially inserted key will allow you to turn the cylinder.
