Yes! Thank you for this! Only my prehistoric windows had an entire extrior metal frame to the whole foundation. Had to cut the frame around the bolts and return for them later.

The older the house the more odd things one might find. We run into all kinds of things working on these old homes.

@@homerehabpros9617 have you ever encountered a house that had a 60 year old furnace and a water heater from the late 70s (wild guess based on something expiring in '82 according to faded factory sticker). The furnace was the first thing to go and just recently the water heater. At least my first house can only gain value from here.

@@willk4862 I have seen houses with extremely large and very old furnaces. I one time saw a furnace that was a converted coal furnace into gas, but it had to be from the 50s which would put it at least 70 years old. Even though it still worked we replace it…for many reasons. Hot water tanks are different. The 40 year old Hot water tank would be a very rare thing. I have never ran into one that old before.

I have a 1930's era garage with large metal framed windows. I had two window companies come out for quotes, and both said they wouldn't install until I had the windows removed (they wouldn't remove them). Your video helped me figure out how to do it myself. Thanks. Do you have a video on how to repair masonry/cinder block sills/window openings? I'll have to do that before the new windows can be installed, too.

Hey Brad….thanks so much for the comment and the question. That would make a great video, and we have had to do that in the past. We would clean the sill and chip away any caulk or glue or mortar to try to make the existing sill as clean as possible and then we would use mortar / probably a quickset / to smooth out the sill area. And then after the new window was installed we could just paint it if we wanted to.

I have a similar situation where the window casing steel, let into the concrete but it's an egress window in a window well, so it can' be replaced with glass block, needs to be a new modern window with screen. And the steel casing already rusting quite badly after decades. Need to replace it with a standard modern window, well insulated, I was thinking solid pvc casing something no maintenance involved

I would actually measure the opening and order a replacement vinyl double hung window with removable sashes. It needs to be custom built for your opening and then insulated and trimmed with PVC trim

That old window frame looks exactly like the ones in my basement. Mine are 32 × 14 but the same style. It a Michigan home from the 1940's.

You got lucky. I am guessing my will take like 3 hours like on sponge Bob :)
@homerehabpros96172 жыл бұрын
That is true. We do remove a lot of these windows and sometimes it does get more difficult.

You got lucky with that window because they never come out that easily.
@homerehabpros96172 ай бұрын
Actually we rarely have a problem taking them out
