Hey, Dave! Thanks so much for your 'simple way' (maybe not 'simple' rather an engineer's way of thinking...very meticoulus indeed). If there's gonna be a vote for the best solution of removing a stuck CV axle on KZbin, you will definitely get my vote. Again, thanks a million!! This really saved me from a two days worth of frustration on getting that stubborn driver's side CV axle out of the transmission...!!!

Wow! I have been working on cars for years. This method worked incredibly well on a 2009 Saturn Outlook where the axle actually broke off. After I attached the vice grip, I gave 1 pull and it came off. I spent 30 minutes prying, pushing , and beating with no success. Thanks again!
@funlife51 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for this information! The vice grip method you explain worked. Took a few attempts to get it to work ... No amount of prying would get the axel out . Celebration time !

This is simple genius! I had a stuck one awhile back and didn't find your video. I tried clamping a vise on the inside end the same way and using a body work slide hammer hooked to the vise grip, but it wouldn't come out. I guess it was pulling it at an angle. Don't recall how I finally got it loose. Glad to have this great idea in my bag of tricks for the next stuck one. Thanks!

You are the man, very clever! I can't count the numbers of methods I used to attempt to remove mine and failed. This worked like a charm for both sides of my Sedona. So effective that I tumbled backwards because it came out so easy. Note, I had to center the ring and rotate the axle a few times before it would come but it worked great. Got to give credit where credit is due. Lastly I used two vice grips to get this to work

I rarely make comments but this one deserves it. Absolute genius. I thought I got my self into a pickle this morning. Hub was loose but that damn retainer ring works like it's designed too. Yes indeed it is a royal mess getting the boot and grease out. My axle was too long to act as a good slide hammer with the knuckle in place. Grabbed the grinder and shortened it. It was bit of challenge to reseat it but once I got it back in two pulls and out it came. Great success

Well, it was a big gooey mess for awhile. Then it took me around 75 strong hits with this makeshift deadblow hammer trick. My RF CV axle was damaged & jumping around quite a bit before I got the parts to replace it. Guess there was a whole lotta torque applied to the transmission spines & things got a bit wedged in place. But I was convinced your trick was going to work in the end and it did. Thank you again Dave. 10 thumbs up!!😊

Wow, holy shit. How I didn’t think of this is beyond me. Literally just saved me. I’m not a big commenter either, but this worked FANTASTIC! I only used one pair of vice grips. I took the bearings off the axle, cleaned all the CV fluid off and inserted it back in, with the vice grips on the side closest the firewall. It took 3 taps/pulls and it popped right out.

I went through every trick on YT.. the only one that worked was wrapping a chain around the back and connecting it with a nut and bolt, and renting a slide hammer n connecting the chain to the end of the slide. Put a thicker nut on end of slide hammer and lock chain around that with another nut and bolt and go to work. 6 pulls or so and I got it. Good luck
