I just have to say that I am halfway through Part 1, and this is the clearest, simplest, informative, and comprehensive vehicle maintenance video I have seen on KZbin-EVER! The presenter speaks clearly and slowly enough for the viewer to closely follow along as each step of the procedure is described and illustrated. The video component of this presentation is of the highest order. The pace of the presentation is perfect for all viewer automotive maintenance skill levels. Each step of the procedure is clearly described. Video is clear, well illuminated, and augmented with highlighting arrows, circles, etc., when necessary. The presenter tells you all of the concerns, considerations, tools, and techniques required for each step of the maintenance procedure. I also appreciated seeing how an expert lays out the parts and fasteners being removed, so that when it's time to reassemble, everything is easily found. I really appreciate how comprehensive, clear, and concisely this major automotive repair procedure is presented. The additional HUGE BENEFIT I got from this video is that now I have the exact knowledge I need to expertly perform many other more minor repairs to my 2004 Ford Escape in the engine compartment, since so many system components had to be removed to get the transmission out. I had to laugh when he talked about removing the middle transmission mounting bolt. He recommended using a wrench, instead of a socket, because the socket will get trapped against the mount as the bolt is being removed. This exact thing has happened to me a number of times over the years while working on my personal cars, vans, and pickup trucks. When removing something your very first time, I think it's natural to assume that all of the mounting bolts for a component would be the same size and length. You're already tired after working on this thing all day, and maybe a bit irritated by the limited working clearances in these newer vehicles. Everything is so compact and cramped together. The other bolts came out using your socket wrench. You're on the last bolt, cranking away. You see that the bolt is almost out (or so you think)--and then your wrench gets pressed up against something and you realize now you've got to screw the bolt back in far enough to get the socket wrench off, and then go find the correct wrench to get the bolt out! On the flip side, if you don't remember exactly into which hole the longer bolt goes in, you won't know it until the bolt either "bottoms out" with threads still showing but the bolt head is not contacting the surface, or you've watched the bolt all the way in, but it won't tighten down all the way. The comprehensive presentation of this entire maintenance procedure will allow home mechanics of most any skill level to successfully perform the repair work, saving hundreds or even thousands of dollars in repair costs. Conversely, a viewer will be able to make an informed decision of "That's WAY MORE WORK than I have the energy and motivation to take on"! Again, I wish to extend my sincere thanks to this presenter for making this excellent video. I have just subscribed to this channel, and will use it as a resource to improve my automotive repair skills and reduce my auto repair costs. I'm going to browse this channel and see if there might be a video on replacing the transmission solenoids on my 2004 Ford Escape. Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge and experience with all of us!

Used this and Part 2 to change the transmission in my 2006 Ford Escape XLT. Only minor differences. Excellent video and editing. The tips saved me countless hours knowing what to remove to get access to the transmission. Also, removing the lower arm at the ball joint was WAY easier than other videos I watched. Only took a few minutes to remove the Axles. People like you are what make KZbin an invaluable resource. Thank you, sir!

Thank you! I was replacing a water pump and came across a broken tube. Wasn't sure what it was even attached to but it said 4x2 so I assumed it was the transmission. Found this video trying to see if was the transmission so I'd have a point of reference to start from, and you actually identified the exact tube by name.

I haven't started to remove the transmission in mine,yet. But since I was planning on replacing valve cover gaskets at some point, I'm going to do this at the same time I plan on removing the transmission. In doing this I'm thinking that this should give me enough clearance to reach the upper exhaust manifold bolts from the top side. Any thoughts or input would be appreciated. By the way..GREAT VIDEO!!

I feel like alot of u don’t really need a trans replacement. I have a CD4E with 260k miles on it never changed fluid. Started slipping bad under load hauling some bags of rock. Got home flushed the trans 1 gallon each time driving in between for about 6 times. Also replaced the solenoid pack inside the trans pan under the valve body. Trans runs like new again I mean even better than before it had problems. Btw originally was getting 3rd gear ratio incorrect code. Just thought of this helps one person mission complete !
@digitalorgy37845 ай бұрын
I also found out getting the fluid measurement is extremely important to this trans. It will act up if not correct. Run the vehicle in park and warm it up hold the break and motion thru all gears while holding the break. Put the car back in park and leave it running. Now check the fluid while the car is running be sure to fill the fluid to within the cross hatch mark on the dipstick. Always allow about 5 minutes to recheck after u add fluid

To be honest I don't remember having to do this job on a 4cylinder, but yes typically smaller engines are easier to work around
