I want to show you how to quickly and effectively remove the tenon from your woodturning bowls, vases, and other projects you might tackle. I have used this method until recently when I purchased a vacuum chuck for my lathe. I really hope this helps both beginner woodturners and seasoned turners who might discover something new. In my tools and gear section, you'll discover links I use often to enhance my craft, and I hope they prove helpful to you as well

Thanks for sharing, I’m a beginner turner. I have the hardest time using tenons, my work keeps popping off. Full view and Like 👍

You're welcome, Allen! When you mention "popping off," are you referring to the tenon snapping, or does it pop out of the chuck? Thanks a lot for your comment. I'm really pleased I could assist you. 🙏also are you on Instagram?

Without having seen your turning, my suggestion would be to direct your cuts towards the headstock while turning and focus on taking smaller cuts. I'd also recommend checking out the video on roughing out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4SwiKiIrZZjgNEsi=wRMMFQu_Mi__TIA8. It provides some close up video forming a tenon. Keep me posted on your progress. Cheers, mate. Kez

Hey Kerry, just found your channel. Love your honest friendly approach to all you do. Only the second person I've ever subscribed to, that should tell you something right there. The way you present with humour and keeping all the little " mistakes " for us all to see is spot on. Good luck in 2024

An easy way to center signatures or other lettering is to count the letters, start with which one is on the center, and work away from that. Count the spaces as one. So if your name is Rick Johnson, the center mis between the J and the O in Johnson. If the words have the same number of letters, the space between the words is the center.

Thank you so much for this, Chuck. That's an awesome way of doing things. I really appreciate it, and I might even make a video once my hand is better. Thank you for your input. Cheers, Kezza

Something else you can do is get a piece of plywood, attach a faceplate and turn it circular, and CA glue some really low grit sandpaper on. At least, that's an idea Wood magazine gives, and it's something I plan on doing. Might be a bit slower, but it'll be cheaper if not free if you already have that stuff sitting around. You might even get away with using wood glue, although that might deteriorate faster because of the heat

I know I'm living at the other side of the world (The Netherlands) but you don't have to do things upside down! I mean, put the sanding disc on a jacobs chuck in your lathe and hold your bowl in your hands. You'll have much more control. A jacobs chuck won't cost you much....
@KerryCorney
@KerryCorney 11 ай бұрын
Hello Robert, I've attempted using the Jacobs Chuck previously. However, I've noticed that while using it, I need to exert sideways pressure with my upper body, which tends to tire me out much faster. In contrast, when I use the drill, I only need to apply downward pressure, making it a much more comfortable experience. I hope that explanation makes sense. Nonetheless, I value your input, and a fresh perspective can always benefit others. So, thank you. cheers Kez.
