Thanks for an excellent tutorial. With this info, I was able to replace the inserts on my X166. The process is exactly the same as your W166. My X166 has leds integrated into the running board. The hardest part was trying to unplug the wire. I found that I had to soak the connector with WD40 for 5 - 10 minutes before trying to unplug.

Nothing, there isn't any adhesive holding them in

Tracklife- Do you know if you can get the rubber non skid inserts for the running boards? I have 2015 GL with running boards that cleaned up really nicely but one rubber bump came out during cleaning. It was not one of the securing ones with the washer on the bottom side..

To reinstall the aluminum into the step I had to flex it in the middle and insert it on both sides. Took me a minute to figure that out.

I am going to power coat the plate, should last 4 times longer. What about the reinstall?

You can rub them back with steel wool but the best solution is either repaint or wrap

Little late Question but: are there any parts glued or is it always just a clip mechanism? cause my local dealer said that the actual aluminium part is glued to the plastic...

High heat silicone aluminum color on the running board , they spread all over black marine sand, repeat.
