Auto Repair Guys Hi guys. I have a BMW e46 320 cd 2004 model. My problem is that the key doesn’t unlock/lock the doors anymore. It unlocks the trunk and if you hold/press the unlocking button the windows come down as they should so I think that the actual key is working. When I close the drivers door, the computer shows me that is still open and the window doesn’t come back as it normally did with the coupe and convertible version, it always stays down a little as it does when you normally open the door. The only way to lock the car(the drivers side only) is by putting the key inside the key barrel on the drivers door. I have also changed the fuses from central locking system. Please help and sorry for the long description! Cheers

Thanks for the great video. It was useful. Actually, you can save some work compared to how it was explained here. You do not have to remove the door handle and window regulator either. It is enough to take off two of the five screws on the opening side of the door and to move the mechanism aside. It gives you enough space to take off the actuator.

@@riccardocervetti3203 It was 8 months ago when I did it. I'm not sure, but I believe that the only way to take the window off is by taking the whole mechanism out. So I would say you do not have to.

My 05 e46 coupe started misbehaving yesterday. The passenger Door Open indicator came on and the window came down 1/4", even though the door was fully closed. I can roll the window down and back up but it will automatically do the 1/4" drop and the Door Open light stays on. It roll down automatically but don’t roll up,have to hold the button to roll up and still come down 1/4. Any idea what might be the fault or how to fix it thanks in advance.

Question.... Why did you remove the outer door handle? I don't see any connection between it and the actuator in the video? Or at least any need to remove the handle to remove the actuator 🤔

They actually remove a lot more than needed. Yes handle is not needed to be removed but lock barrel is, you can damage it when installing replacement actuator. And also you don't need to remove glass and window regulator assembly aswell, it can be done by just loosening the backside of assembly so you can push it towards outer panel to get room to wiggle the old actuator out. Yes it's little trickier but you'll save yourself headache to regulate the window when refitting window regulator and glass. It's real pain in the ass to get glass positioned right so the glass has correct tilt towards doorseals and right level so it regulates on/off the seal when opening/closing door. Its not impossible but i think wiggling the actuator in and out of smaller cap is less painful than regulating glass again, its alot of opening and closing door and doing little adjustments to get it right.

Confused. You disconnected the battery then reconnected it to open the window? What was it disconnected for in the first place?

Hey bud I'm having thr issue wer I disconected the battery and now I can't reboot the cluster all fuses are good and the reset clock is also out this happens everytime I disconnected the battery only be4 I could reprogram it by just turning all the switchs to on possition and turning on and off but this time its not working please help car been sitting for 5months

mines stuck shut, power works and the lock jumps up and down. i’m gonna try it but getting the side screws is gonna be difficult

na mate, you dont disconnect the batt the plug it bk to bring down window! what was the point in disconnecting it u burk? just undo the window motor and pull glass down with hands so you DONT get a air bag warning light!

You can reset the air bag light if you have PA software like a every E46 owner should

You should disconnect the battery so you do not engage the air bag. If you are going to offer tips, then you need to offer them in a safe manner. The video describes the correct way to do this.
