Hi. I had the intake manifold replaced on my 2010 Tiguan at the dealership because it was under warranty. The next day the check engine light came on. I took it back to the VW dealership and they said it was the “nock” sensor. My question is: is it possible they damaged the knock sensor when replacing the intake manifold? I am furious at this point because the shop who is inspecting and fixing my car told me there are parts missing and the Dealership didn’t clean the carbon off of somethings yet charged me as if they did. What do you think could they have damaged the knock sensor during the process of replacing the manifold and cleaning the carbon build up off? I thank you for your opinion.

what was the problem before changing the sensors, stuttering and misfiring?

olDirdey I have a code on my 2004 CT running lean and bank 2 knock sensor and it is causing me to fail smog (CA). Vehicle runs strong but yes, typically some stuttering and pinging at higher rpms from what I have been told... I’m sure heat and vibration on these motors design causes sensors a shorter life... good time to change starter too!

+@@aparke4 thank you very much for the reply. Starter, spark plugs, coils are changed after coolant leakage but 2 weeks later the car starts to stutter and sometimes missfire. The knock sensor was reported as failure code, will change it this week.

@@olDirdey Gotcha- yeah I am in the same boat! Getting to the knock sensors is not hard just time consuming with the design. I would also check you oil air separator and make sure the diaphragm does not have a leak. I need to change out spark plugs as well...

​@@aparke4 Today I replaced the knock sensor and found that the problem was a faulty cable and not the sensor itself, fixed it and now the car is running like before. You don´t need to remove the coolant pipes, with a small wrench you can access the screw. Whole job tooks 1.5 hours. @@olDirdeyThere are two sensors on each side for V8. One of them is under the starter so it needs to remove coolant pipe. Not sure how many there are on v6? I am thinking just one on each side.
