You shouldn't use muriatic acid on concrete as it will damage the concrete. For oil stains you can try something like acetone or naptha (organic solvents) trichloroethylene. Muriatic acid is best used on acid resistant masonry such as brick.
@conquryourfear6 жыл бұрын
I have not seen any damage to my concrete. the pool guy uses muriatic acid to clean heavily stained pools; and that's not made out of brick -- and this is where I got the idea to clean my patio deck in this video.

Im a mason and the brick cleaners use muriatic acid to remove cement left from the bricklayer and to remove the slick finish on the joint to show the aggregate essentially eating the concrete. This should have been diluted so much though and brushed around. Brickcleaners use 1:20 water but no more than 1:5. Looks good

You should have use a brush, it would have clean it better and cover a larger area. Get a brush that you can screw on to a stick ( like a push broom). The brush you get should be nylon (acid safe) or stainless steel bristle. Wear safety glasses, gloves and respirator. Here in NYC I have customers that live near the highways and they get a lot of sloot and dirt from the cars, I go clean their bricks and limestone stairs step after the acid wash it looks brand new.

Good idea, but definitely do not want to breathe the fumes, wear safety glasses and gloves. Having worked in the swimming pool industry for over 18 years, and doing many acid-washing of plaster pools, I've had some close calls with muriatic acid, it's some bad stuff, and frankly there are better materials to use to clean concrete imo! The muriatic acid will also eat up the mortar in the concrete leaving it very porous if you leave it on too long. Before rinsing, I would suggest neutralizing the acid with soda ash or baking soda. Everything can be purchased(as well as further advice, tips) at your local mom & pop swimming pool supply store. Be safe out there! -Trent

Bro, that Muriatic Acid is absolutely lethal. I'm surprised that retail stores are even allowed to sale it to the average consumer. I used Muriatic once on a 30 year old pressure washed driveway with really stubborn stains. I diluted it, which is probably the reason that it wasn't effective. Either way, I will never use that stuff again for anything. Even with full PPE on, it's still too dangerous to handle. Even a microscopic spill will burn the heck out of your skin and eat through your clothes. I'm going to look into using phosphoric acid for any future jobs. I'm told that it's a lot safer and just as effective.

Muriatic acid will rust anything metal in your garage, as it's really a gas not a liquid. ( the gas is what destroys metals). Use phosphoric acid , much safer and will do the job. Buy the concentrate it's about $20 for a gallon , dont buy the premixed stuff ( products containing phosphoric acid) As they are a waste of time and money.

@conquryourfear7 жыл бұрын
Nightbird I'm not a professional. I am just passing my experience and results on. It was my experience that after leaving that acid on my concrete, it cleaned itself after about leaving it on the concrete for two minutes. After watering it down, and watering the edge of my grass, my grass was not effected.
@markm23026 жыл бұрын
Use diluted bleach for mold, NOT acid.
@gatecrasherkz76 жыл бұрын
Nightbird, I seal concrete for a living. I would use a 3000psi (min) water blaster which would remove all moss. I use a whirl a way attachment on flat concrete. If you wanted to seal it I would then use hydrochloric acid to acid wash the area (1 part acid to 9 parts water). First, wet the concrete with a hose then apply the acid with a watering can and be careful not to miss any areas. You can use a broom If easier for you to get 100% coverage. Leave for at least 30 seconds for the fizzing to stop then hose off with water. Work in stages. Let concrete fully dry. Apply sealer the next day preferably if no rain is forecast. Sealer can not get wet until it is fully dry

Add baking soda or ammonia to the acid BEFORE you rinse it away and it will neutralize the acid... If you're really worried about pH levels use some pH paper to check it BEFORE you wash it away
@TruthSurge4 жыл бұрын
jesus..... no one pays attention in school? It's just an ACIDIC compound. If you dilute it with water as he did when he rinsed it, it will be less and less acidic because it is more and more DILUTED. There is no environmental impact if you dilute it well once it's done its job. What's the impact of pouring out a Coke into the grass? That stuff has phosphoric acid in it. It'll eat a hole in your stomach if you drink it all day.
