If I'd seen this before I started instead of relying on just the new installation instructions, I would have saved about 5 hours of work. That would have made the job 32 minutes instead of 5 hours 32. Thank you so much. "A little tougher for an older bike" Yeah. Give it a good yark! and it was fine.

@ Beatiefeelers, sorry to hear that man. Yes it's really not that bad of a job to do. Most makes and models are the same. Only time u may have issues if diff has water in it and axles get rusted in. Just do preventative maintenance , such as oils regularly and you shouldn't ever have issues.

Thats a real nice C-clip release you've got there, my axles require a ton of smashing back and forth before they'll release, maybe I'll try it more straight on as you're doing here
@TheHomesteadWay10 жыл бұрын
Yes it the straighter you have the shaft lined up the better chance you have of it popping it right out. Push it in all the way first and if it moves freely in then you know the shaft isnt rusted to the diff. And then youll have a little extra momentum for the tug out.

My C clip ended up being fully stuck, I ended up taking the other axle out and using a punch to get the opposite axle side out, apparently if the seal is leaking and water gets in, the c clip can get nastily stuck!

Kingsoupturbo Yes thats a common problem. I change Diff oils every couple months if we have been riding threw lots of water/mud and after every ride wash it down good and park in a spot to see if the diffs seals are leaking at all. Preventative maintainance and inspection is key for long life of machine and tons of fun!
@Kingsoupturbo10 жыл бұрын
You speak the truth sir! the more I ride my machine the more I realize how you really have to be on top of the maintainance a lot if you do any kind of hard riding! Good idea on cleaning it up and then parking in a place to check for leaks, I'm going to be a lot more careful on diff seals in the future, diffs are really pricey if they break!

@Kingsoupturbo A bit of cleaning and maintenance goes a long way in the long run. It always seems to suck when first thinking about the cleaning ect. haha

You didn't need to do all that to get the axle out... Unbolt the A arms at the back and the shock and the hub will turn 90 degrees and let the shaft come out of it on the wheel end... Then a pry bar will pop it out of the diff...

Thanks. Maybe one day I shall try it like that

question. .. i bought new fully assembled axles, do i need to grease anything on them or just pull old ones out like you did and click in the new ones without greasing anything ?? 2007 arctic cat 700
@TheHomesteadWay9 жыл бұрын
No there is no need to put grease on anything. Just line up your new axles as straight as possible and tap them in.

Is that where you would replace the seal? My son has an 07 and it started leaking i think at the axle/diff seal. Thanks, T

What do you recommend if the end doesn't separate from the gearcase, for instance, i pulled the whole shaft out and the boot and the bearing still stuck to the gearcase, i don't wanna ruin that bearing or boot. Any help would be much appreciated. thanks!
@TheHomesteadWay9 жыл бұрын
@jesse wetzel, that must mean your inner cv is rusted into the diff from water contamination. You change oil regularly? U may have to remove the diff and split it open to soak the splines and knock out the shaft from the inside. Other wise try pry bars from both sides if that inner stub shaft. But don't break the differential case.

Dealing with that right now

What if the half shaft is already broken therefore when you pull on it it's not pulling it out of the housing? It just separates at the knuckle inside the boot.

@danielharvey1619 sounds like your gonna have to rig up a slide hammer

When re-installing, the axle just pops back into the diff as easily as it pops out?
@TheHomesteadWay9 жыл бұрын
@ Colin Pacey, Yes it well clip back in as that C clip needs to expand back open. The straighter you have it lined up the easier it well be to get in and out. Also I have used a soft blow hammer on other end of shaft just to get it started and the C clip compressed. Hope this helps, any other questions feel free to send a message any time. Sorry for the late response.
@falkenpunch61809 жыл бұрын
Wow, so you just gave it a good yank? That's it? I tried yanking on my rear axle last night and that damn thing wouldn't come out
@TheHomesteadWay9 жыл бұрын
Ya it just pops out. There is only a small C-clip that needs to compress in order for axle to come out. If your didn't I suspect the shaft is rusted into the splines of the diff. Ever have water in your diff?
@falkenpunch61809 жыл бұрын
+Black Beauty No I eventually got it out, it just took a bit of yanking/banging with a hammer. Diff was actually pretty clean thankfully
@joanrodriguez58486 жыл бұрын
Is the same for the back axles?

Yes you pop out the rear axles the same way.

Okay so I'm doing the exact same job but I cannot remove the axle.. so now what the f*** do I do
@TheHomesteadWay5 жыл бұрын
Joe R if couple good swift push and pulls won’t get it the snap ring is not compressing. Was diff full of oil or did have some water in it? If there was water I’m guessing that the shaft possibly seized in the diff.
@outdoorguy8455 жыл бұрын
So what I did was disassemble the CV joint by removing the snap ring, removing all the grease, then reassemble the bearing. Gave it one good pull and it came out easy. I believe when the joint and the boot was full of grease, it was absorbing the impact as I was pulling. I just received my wheel bearing in the mail. Only $16 online. And $72 for the axle. Probably not the best quality but it looks good, I will probably sell the machine then buy a Honda foreman with a plow.
