HOW TO REMOVE BMW X5 E70 HEADLIGHT

I sold an X5 because of this... what an absolute headache just to change a headlight over... Literally a 30 second job on mostly any other car...

On the driver's side you have to remove the fender and to undo a bit of the bumper to remove the headlight . Quite a messy job. Many bolts and quite a hassle . Just did it today both sides ...

Chris Maverick What about the passenger side? I just removed light on drivers side without removing the bumper. I hear that the passenger side is much more complicated

Roosevelt Stewart Your passenger, my drivers side. But we both have the wiper washer reservoir to deal with. It’s a case of bolts removed from the light assembly holding arm and drop down and un bolt the relay from the car body also and gently manipulate and remove the light assembly. Not easy but can be done. Other side should be easier as mentioned by others.

So Much easier to take off the driver's side. On the passenger side you need to take off part of the front bumper and loosen a few fender bolts. There is also an electric box that you need to take off. Then you can wiggle the headlight out. NOT AN EASY JOB

X5M has oil coolers on both sides you will also have to remove to get the support bracket bolts out. Much messier job so best to do during an oil change

Not an easy job I would say 5 hours each.

@@yuliyanholu9626 Its about an hour to get off and an hour to put back (But you need to know what you are doing for that speed). Remove the wheel and inner wheel liner (10 mins) Remove the trim from the wheel arch - (5 mins) - Remove the plastic nuts that hold the Fan relay in place and the bracket itself (10mm) - Remove the lower support bracket about 20 mins -- There is a Torx 30 on the right and a bolt that holds it into the inner part of the car - Dremmel that bold shorter (its 10mm I think) (But keep the nut on) then when you remove the nut the threads are OK - Then there are two T30 inside the engine bay pointing towards the light cluster. When these are out you can lever the plastic support bracket over the shorter bolt that you made to allow it to come out easier. (You will need to remove a vertical torx thats going into the bottom of the light cluster from this bracket you are removing. Once you have that out of the way you can remove 3x 8mm bolts in the headlight itself. And the light cluster will then pull out through the hole. If you have an airbag sensor on the bottom bracket DO NOT disconnect it or you will have an error code. Leave it plugged in and move the bracket out of the way. It sounds a nightmare - And its a pain just for maybe changing the Angel eyes. But its not the end of the world and with basic tools and a few hours you can do it at home -- A garage would charge at least three hours for this so its expensive. And to be honest stupid engineering.
