Yes you CAN just buy the boot ! I too bought a whole set of coils just to eliminate any questions , BUT.... for future reference you CAN get the boot. BTW your better off buying parts online, i got a set of 6 coils for under $150 which was $25 a piece instead of the $80 per at auto zone !

Just had the same probem. I tried the pick but it just would not come off. I spent 3 hrs poking it. I gave up. Based on your idea i super glued a screw on top of a arts a craft stick. Waited over night to make sure it was on for good. I screwed it to the rubber boot and with plier I slowly pulled it off on the second try. Thanks for the idea. I spent less than a $1.00 making this. And spent $30.00 buying needle nose pliers and picks which did not work for me.

Straighten a coat hanger.Bend a tiny hook on the end.Shove it along the spark plug through the hole in the boot.Yank it out.Not too hard.I have had to do all 4 plugs 3 different times on a civic after buying shitty Amazon coils.

Thanks man! i broke off TWO coil packs last night and was up all night worrying how i was going to get to work monday. These things did the job. Had to use both picks at the same time to get enough of a grip on the rubber to pull it out.
@davidclinansmith38575 жыл бұрын
Dude, you're THE MAN! I didn't have picks and AutoZone was closed so I used a kabob skewer. I cut a couple notches in the end of it with tin snips so I could spin it once it was in and get grip. I hope that helps some body else.

What happened is the spark plug backed out very common on that truck the black color on plug and boot is from exhaust gasses at dealer we see it all the time in plugs have been replaced and the person that replaced them did not torque them to the proper value. Another way to remove the burned and over heated boot is to break off the top of the plug and pull the boot out with plug top still attached the boot seize to the plug but great job

I really appreciate you bro, I was like it felt like rubber was preventing my socket making contact with the spark plug.. I looked at the old coils and two of the boots are stuck down in there.. I’m using my dread Locc needle It’s cheaper. $1.49 and I had it on hand 😂
@vickirichardt23444 жыл бұрын
This is impossible because the coil only clamps on to the top of spark plug so how did it get covered over the spark plug??

Thanks for the informative video. I have the same issue with my '97 Toyota 4Runner but on the driver side where there is no coil just the boot. I tried my set of picks for about 30 minutes without luck. Decided to take a breather and try again after seeing if there is a solution. As another person stated my problem spark plug boot is towards the rear and difficult to get much clearance. Might have to take the intake manifold off to get a better angle and try the pick set again.

I've been having intermittent misfires just on start up, just discovered 2 of mine are broken and another one has some oil in it. Ordered new plug wires and a new set of valve cover gaskets and seals. I don't know how this thing is even starting, but I hope that stuff gets here quick lol.

ok so you stuck it down there and broke the boot. That is the easiest part, how did you take it out from down there? Wouldn't it be easier to pull it out without breaking it though? If you break it you risk of crushing it and then some parts being left down there

Cut about a 7 or 8 inch piece off of a metal wire coat hanger. Bend a 1/4" hook at about 90 deg. on 1 end and at 1" 90 deg on other end pointing the same way as the 1/4 " bend. This way U know which way the 1/4" is pointing and it gives you something to grab and pull with without using a tool. Send the 1/4" hook end down the spark plug tube hole. Once down there next to the rubber boot turn and hook the boot. Then slowly pull up using as little force as possible. If the hook lets go just repeat. I got mine out on the first try. If there are small pieces of boot still down there get them out before you unscrew the spark plug. Attach a piece of 3/8 or 1/2 " i.d. vinyl tubing to your shop vac. and suck them out. This worked very well today, 2 X.

How long did you wait to change those spark plugs? I tried changing mine and the bolt that holds them in place snapped in half and the other half was still in the valve cover and had to get it replaced. Cost over $900.00 😅

Thanks for sharing, I just spent 4 hours trying to get one out, got close with a tool for tooth but know I know this one exists, there is also a tube they sell that suppose to go in and come out with the boot on it but is 30 bucks did anyone try that one?

Y does the ignition coil get stuck to the plugs? I bought brand new ignition coil n plugs after a few days of the installation i tried to take out my ignition coil n it was stuck to the plugs. What is the cause of it? I dont want to break rhte coils because I paid $109 for each one. Its expensive.

It's suggested to use some type of grease on the boot where it connects to the spark plugs and to keep this from happening. The tend to dry and get stuck so grease in general for boots and rubber hose on point of connection is recommended. Hope that help
