I'M CONFUSED BY SOME OF THESE COMMENTS... Some comments on here are saying that using Dawn dish washing liquid in our locs is NOT a good idea because it will strip our hair of all of its natural oils or that it will dry out our hair... HOWEVER, every time we wash our hair (no matter what shampoo or treatment we're using), isn't that EXACTLY what we're trying to do? Get rid of the product buildup that's in our hair? We already know that getting rid of buildup CAN dry out our hair; it's inevitable. But don't we moisturize our hair after a good wash ANYWAYS? I don't know one Sister or Brother who doesn't moisturize their hair after washing it. HENCE, MY CONFUSION... And as far as our hair's "natural oils" are concerned...if it's "natural", that means that our bodies NATURALLY produce our hair oils...that's not likely to STOP happening, is it? Will using Dawn dish washing detergent create some kind of invisible barrier that won't allow our hair to take in any kind of moisturizer we add to it? Will it PERMANENTLY STOP our bodies from producing natural hair oils? Is THAT what we're saying here?

@@KimberlyStJohn-mo7bv "Dawn" is specifically mentioned because it is excellent at removing grease (or oils), leaving your dishes (and your scalp, if you use it) "squeaky" clean. That's why we see commercials of adorable baby seals and baby ducks who were caught in a large oil slick, and were given bubble baths made with Dawn. It shows how gentle it is for the young's feathers, or fur (or, in this case, our hair), yet it's tough on cutting through grease and rinses away easily.

My hair instantly relaxed those pesky buds and my hair is super clean. I literally been doing those detoxes for two days and it did nothing but make the water brown for no reason, cause it didn't lift anything. I just tested it out on one of my locs. @@KenyaAsIs I TOTALLY forgot to check in with you after I tried your suggestion to use Dawn for washing locs. WOW...a whole year has passed!😂 Anyways, I am happy to report that it works WONDERS!❤ In my humble opinion, I like using Dawn WAY better than the ACV, lemon and baking soda rinse; Baking soda is HARD to rinse out of my locs because my hair is very long! I lost count of the number of rinses it took to get all of it out.. I thought my arms would fall off! Dawn is all I use now to wash my and my daughter's locs! Thank you sooooo much for your video!

It works so well because washing up liquid is made to emulsify dirt and oils into itself and be rinsed away. That's pretty much it. Hair stuff is made to leave residue and do the most. I think any basic washing up liquid brand would work the same.

I know for a fact that Dawn will work on any build up and its gentle on skin and hair because its recommended to use on your pets with sensitive skin, it also rids of fleas and it cleans any build up without creating irritation to the skin just be mindful to restore your moisture with a good conditioner after shampooing.

Chile thank you for this video. I just locked my hair over Thanksgiving (been natural for 12 years) and I've been doing a lot of research on how to care for them because my son has been locked for 2 years now and don't like the way his locs feel. I've come across the ACV+ method and I ain't got the patience...so when your video popped up in the recommendations 🙌🏾. I've watched several others who've been locked for years and they've tried both and said the Dawn was easier and less time consuming, plus they use Dawn for animals with oil spills... You're stripping your hair if you wash with sulfate or clarifying shampoos and this is really no different. You just gotta know how to replenish your hair afterwards and don't do this too often. I typically clarify once a month or every 2 months but I'm sure it'll be less with locs because I'm not using as many products. Anywho, thanks again. 👍🏾

I have relatives working professionally as chemist. And they basically said that is why clarifying shampoos were made. Your logic that dawn basically does the same thing can also be applied to engine degreasers. So basically just stick to products that were specifically formulated to be safe for your skin and hair.

Our hair produces its own oils naturally so there’s no need to do a hot oil or moisturizer treatment. Washing it with Dawn will wash out the BUILDUP OF the natural oils but the hair will REPRODUCE it in time, naturally.
