How To Remove Dropbox on a Mac

Hi Everyone! I just want to note that following the directions in this video will NOT delete any dropbox files online, and also will NOT close your dropbox account. It simply will remove dropbox from your Mac. To close your account you can do that at www.dropbox.com. I hope you found this helpful, and please leave any questions in the comments! Thanks!

I actually haven't used it in a while. It worked great for having realtime backups in my former recording studio. Once I build my new studio I'll be shopping around as well :).

My biggest problem is I have my Mac completely synced to Dropbox. I no longer want to use drop box. I also want to keep all of my files on my Mac. They are very important work projects and documents. I’m not sure what to do because I can’t not have these files on my computer. Please help

I need to unsync my Dropbox from my Mac while saving all my files. Everything I’ve searched says I need to go to preferences,account, and there it will give me an option to unsync. Only for me I don’t have that option. It only give me an option to sign out which does not unsync.

I believe if you sign out on your computer, your files will remain, it will just no longer update. Then you can either leave them in that folder, or drag them to a different location. Also, when you sign out of dropbox on your computer, your files will not be deleted online. Just sign out, verify that nothing was deleted on your computer, and then go to dropbox.com to close your account. I hope that helps!

Hello, I previously used backup and sync from google on my MacBook with high speed uploads, I wanted to give Dropbox a go, I didn’t really like it so I uninstalled it and removed my documents, downloads, and desktop folder, that’s fine I could just put them back. However when use the backup and sync from google again I uses up 100% of my cpu and uploads at a rate of 100kb/s. What could of possibly been the cause of this, any help?

I does not work all is closed but it tells me Dropbox can't be removed because some extensions are active - looks like many people struggling the same

....wait....I've gone to the drop box link in apps, clicked on the various parts : contents, library, plug ins etc and deleted them one by one.....it worked......

It did delete EVERYTHING off of that desktop when I did that you should probably mention to make sure to have sync with local turned on first if you don’t want to loose everything. Luckily I was moving all of my files over from my husbands desktop to my own. I was so freaking happy to see everything still on my desktop when I logged in to my account.
