Don't let anything keep you away from turning something embroidered into something rad! Here is a perfect example, and I walk you through this little skill that I just taught myself. Meet the seam ripper, as it destroys Lea, and turns this jacket into an anonymous gem.

Good advice! Just a little extra tip: usually it's safer to turn the item inside out and cut the threads from the underside. That way if you happen to knick the fabric or cause a little bit of damage it will be on the underside as opposed to the front that everyone sees. :)

This isn’t always an option though. Some clothing items have more then one layers and the embroidery is only done on the first layer leaving you no access to the backside.

​@@kolinmartzSo you would open the layers. If it's only embroidered on the top layer then that means the layers were cut somewhere to slip the hoop in. You cut near the placket flaps (by the buttons) and sew it back shut when done.

You can also use very small cuticle scissors. To close the holes, use an iron at a low setting. Whether they close depends on age, size, fabric, and such.

Hi... awesome video. In addition to the seam ripper, a couple good tools to have are a pair of manicure scissors (the tiny really small ones) and a good pair of tweezers for yanking out stubborn threads. Some fabrics will need a little coaxing to cover over their holes after you rip out the threads. You can use a VERY soft old toothbrush to carefully brush the threads back in place. I used to sew my own clothes and these always came in handy for me.

If you remove the embroidery and see that there's still some discolouration or holes, you could always put an iron-on applique or patch to cover it.

You moisten the lining and the front (if it still shows) where the thread was to remove the trace where the holes are. Start with cold water. If that doesnt work as well, use warm. The water helps to pull the fabric to its original state. Do not saturate or soak it, just dab it with a wet towel or sponge so it gets wet through in through. Then get a dry towel and blot it dry. This method also works on shrits that get those big holes from price tags. Nice vids always. TFS

It's easier to use the seam ripper from the other side first. cut out all the stitches and they will just pull out through the frontside.
