How wonderfully detailed. Thank you. I had to replace the water pump on my Volvo XC90. There was not a single KZbin video that showed and described the process of disassembly. So many fasteners positioned where one cannot see them and with no instructions at all available a project that should be difficult with effort. All European vehicle manufacturers try to make it impossible to preform home repairs. Please accept my MANY THANKS for your full details for disassembly and then with your number two follow up video for installing new engine. What a credit. Eleven out of ten stars. How satisfying to have you on the globe. Enjoy your day with every success and satisfaction. 🙏

For those who are gonna attempt this, your transmission will drop if you don’t use a big enough strap to hold it up. The only thing holding the transmission upright is the engine. My transmission dropped a half foot after removing the engine and what kept it from dropping to the ground was my strap.

Thanks for the detailed video! Anyone contemplating removing / replacing the motor on a Chevy Express and with access to a lift like this should also review the video by realfixesrealfast titled "Pulling the engine on a snub nosed van" where he unbolts the van body from the frame and lifts the body up giving easy access to remove the engine. With this method he didn't need to evacuate the A/C because the compressor(after unbolting from the engine brackets,) and all other A/C components (and the radiator,) stayed with the body. The body lift video is of a 2000 Express van with a 5.7L engine and it looks like the A/C compressor is on the upper driver's side making it easy to wire out of the way compared to your 6.0L with the compressor on the low passenger's side. For catching the coolant when you pull a lower hose like this you can use a 4x2 cement mixing tub from a home improvement store to keep it from going all over the floor.

great video, I did one of these back in the 90's different model obviously but I wonder when manufacturers will design things so they can be serviced. after fixing cars for 22 years I finally got out of the business of dealing with that day after day, so frustrating.
@StumpyVanLife
@StumpyVanLife 2 жыл бұрын
They will never do that. There primary concern when designing things is how easily it can be assembled. They install the powertrain into the frame before they install the body. I have seen service tech's remove the body in order to replace the engine on these vans. They can remove the entire body and use a lift to raise it off the frame in under an hour. Then you have wide open access to everything.

Purely curious, not being critical, but what made you decide to pull the engine out of the front as opposed to lifting the body off? I can certainly see going out the front if you don't have a lift, but being as it's there I would think that would've been easier. I'm mainly asking because I'm replacing a 4.3 in an Express 1500 right now and pulling the body.
@scottrinne1
@scottrinne1 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard both sides of this debate before doing the swap. I decided to pull it out the front because all the people saying it is easier to lift the body never actually did the swap. (They only heard it was easier). That being said, I’m sure someone will now comment that lifting the body is the best way to go. :) But really: you are still going to have to pull the engine off either way. The dog house makes it easy to get to all sides of the engine on our vans….so, I didn’t see the need to also remove the body.
@Basslicks82
@Basslicks82 2 жыл бұрын
@@scottrinne1 Well..... not a fair comparison, but I've also done head gaskets on a '95 Chevy G20. Obviously you can't pull the body on that so you have to do it on the ground. I can definitely say it's a PITA going back and forth in the van, out of the van, inside the van, front of the van.... I guess it would be a little less difficult were it not for having to walk around the doors each time you need to go from the front of the engine to the back of the engine to do something, but pulling the body is just separating the main harness, e-brake cable, shifter cable, and..... it was either 10 or 12 bolts. But hey, seriously man... like I said... wasn't being critical at all, was just curious. Everyone has things they like to do a certain way and I like hearing people's reasons for doing it that way. All in all, I just hate working on vans anyway (stupid G20 put a serious bad taste in my mouth for vans).

Thanks for the feedback. I’m not a professional youtuber or video maker. I had some free time during covid so I made a video that I thought could help some people. I can give you the original file if you want to spend the time to edit it.

@@scottrinne1 just giving you some honest feedback. Allow yourself to take some valuable feedback regardless of how often you post videos. Don't be so defensive and you can learn from the viewers. Thanks

@@joefoster8288 Allow me to be offensive then :) We know you have been on KZbin for a little over a month now. Regardless of your short time on this platform, it would be beneficial for you to know how comments are perceived. I’ll use a real life example of a pedestrian wearing a bright colored shirt; he is helping an old lady cross the street. Later that evening, you are meeting with some buddies and if you said “you guys should have seen the obnoxious shirt I saw today!”, then it would be considered socially normal behavior. However, if you stand in the crosswalk, refuse to say thank you, refuse to help, and instead say “that’s an obnoxious shirt”, then the pedestrian would assume you have some sort of special need while smiling and nodding at you. This video wasn’t made for Motortrend or Primetime tv. It was made with an iphone 5, a $4 clip-on wide angle lens, and $79 editing software. When I was doing research on how to remove this engine I couldn’t find a video, so I thought I would try to make one to help others with their project. Forgive me for not smiling and nodding at your 'valuable' reply, but I still hope this video was helpful for you.

@@scottrinne1 I thought it would be helpful to you to learn that the background music was not necessary and detracts from the content and verbalization so you would not repeat in another video you might want to post. I exit all videos that have annoying music. I just want the facts, not entertainment. Enough Said? 🤐🤔

I can give you my paypal address if you want to donate so I can buy non-royalty free music for my next video. (but we already know you have zero intention on actually helping the car community) The part of this conversation that fascinates me the most, is the part where you assume your opinion is something I might be craving. We are not friends; you have not earned any respect from me...I do not crave how I can make your video watching experience more enjoyable. I simply made a helpful video that didn't exist before I made it. Feel free to make a better video and post and post it on your channel.

That's kinda sad, an engine that could've gone for many many more miles killed by the oil pump.

311,000 miles on it. Oil pump was good; bearings were worn out causing the low oil pressure.

@@scottrinne1 That's odd. Never seen an LQ4 that has the bearings go before the pump. Lack of maintenance?
