The best way to set the light with the green screen
@Graphicious3 жыл бұрын
The main idea is for the greenscreen to be uniformly lit. It depends on the size of your room and the lights. I have two lights above me, pointed at the greenscreen, over my head. You may need a third light to light your face, if these two lights that are pointed at the greenscreen are too far away to be effective.

Great video. Yours is the best at explaining how to use the green screen settings in Camtasia I've found. I'm still having problems trying to remove the background on my video. I tried zooming in when using the eye dropper, which was a great tip and helped, but I can't remove all of the green outline. I also find it washes out my face and the tolerance setting is extremely sensitive, moving it 1% or 2% make a big difference. I shot my video with my read facing camera on an iPhone 13 Pro with 4k setting if that helps. Going to join your FB group and look forward to seeing more of your tips.

Thank you Cristi, I would like to ask one question. The thing is I have a camera Canon G11 , I could not get very good video ( face of the subject is blurry) with it when the camera is 2 m or more far away from the green screen , especialky when I upload it from the camera to Camtsia 2020. However, when the subject is close to the camera, the image or the video is perfect. I have also used my mobile Samsung g12 the same result , not very sharp video, the face of the subject is more or less blurry. Please could you help me to fix this.
@Graphicious3 жыл бұрын
I am not familiar with this camera model, but I would look at auto-focus (if it has face detection, even better) and more importantly, perhaps replace the lens with a lens that is more appropriate for shots from far away. I imagine that you keep the camera far away because it doesn't fit everything in the frame? Another reason for the blurry image is if the camera is decreasing the shutter speed to compensate for bad lighting. I have an old camcorder like that, which is compensating for lack of light by reducing the shutter speed and therefore giving me blurry shots. As soon as I added more lights, it wasn't struggling so hard. I hope this helps.

you have the CLEANEST chormakey work i have seen, could you give us a break-down of your gear/setup? webcam, lighting, mic, etc... thanks.
@Graphicious10 ай бұрын
Thank you! Never heard that I had the cleanest, glad you like it. I don't use anything fancy. My technique is just as shown in this video. For camera, I used to have a Logitech C925e webcam: amzn.to/3x78Jd8 However, I've changed it recently because it didn't do great in low light. I was sometimes struggling to remove the green screen when the light wasn't ideal. I now use an iPhone 11 via the Continuity Camera on Mac and it acts as a webcam. It does much better in low light. For microphone, I used a Blue Yeti: amzn.to/4a9AHmT But recently, I upgraded to a SHURE MV7: amzn.to/4avr8yK For lighting, I don't have anything fancy, just some Christmas lights (no joke) spread out in front of me on the walls. I have rubber foam insulation on the walls to reduce echo, although with SHURE mic it's not too necessary now. For the green screen, I painted my wall green behind me. That's it. Hope this helps. * The links I provided are affiliate links so I might earn a small commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. Thanks for your support!

Great video! I appreciate the ease of following what you are showing. I have tried many different adjustments, but I can't get the green around my hair to go away. Do you have any tips for that? Thanks! 🙂
@Graphicious8 ай бұрын
Camtasia (and other software, really), can't deal very well with hair. It's a difficult thing to manage and remove green screen properly. Other software has more options but it's still something I was never able to perfectly address. Contrast is key.
@TheCarGuyOnline5 ай бұрын
Use Davinci Resolve to remove in post...OR if you want something that removes more than camtasia on recording, OBS chroma key seems to do a better job, at least in my testing.
@pjcstrong2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I really wish Camtasia would improve this and add some time of filters. Very hard to fix lighting in here.

Yeah, the filter is quite limited. Premiere has much more options.

Hi Cristi, Another excellent instructional video. I still find it difficult to completely get rid of the green without creating a ghost. In Premiere Pro this is much more accurate. Is this Camtasia or me? Kind regards!
@Graphicious3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I find that it is sometimes difficult to remove it. The controls in Premiere are more capable and help tolerate bad lighting and fringe, spill, fuzziness, etc. I find Camtasia sometimes hard to use with this effect if the light is off or if I have clothes that are close in hues to the greenscreen. Ironically, on this very video, my green-ish t-shirt was giving me a hard time when removing the greenscreen. I had to use the trick in my other video, grouping the video with itself and applying the remove a color effect again to target another color.

Superb video as it explains many important points in an "easy-to-understand" manner. I am interested on how you place yourself in the screen and then you zoom out to the lower right corner of the screen where you stay and continue explaining what is happening. Can you please explain how this is done including the lighting arrangement of yourself. Many thanks in advance for your advice which is appreciated.

Thank you, I appreciate your feedback. I made a video a while ago explaining the workflow you asked - how I move to the corner and back again. I don’t think I discuss lighting and placement though. Yes, you can in fact (if you have Camtasia 2020 or later): Group the clip with itself and apply the effect again, to the group. If you're on an older version, you can use the procedure shown here, but it requires exporting: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGqrfHh5fp58o6M

I have a problem when I remove my green background in camtasia: my eyes are red. What can I do to make my eyes blue again but save my work?
@Graphicious2 жыл бұрын
Is the tolerance or smoothing too much? Try to dial it down a bit or choose a different hue of green. I get that sometimes when the lighting isn't quite good and the green screen cannot be removed cleanly.
@BobFlisser Жыл бұрын
The Tolerance setting isn't effective removing a thin green outline. Adjusting Tolerance will either leave some of the green screen visible or will make your body transparent. This effect needs a Choke setting like Premiere Pro has. It's now a year after this video and TechSmith hasn't updated the effect yet.
@Graphicious Жыл бұрын
I agree, it needs a few more refinement settings like Premiere and others. Have you tried the AI-based background removal they added in the 2023 version?
@BobFlisser Жыл бұрын
@@Graphicious Do you mean the background removal in Rev? I turned off Rev because it throws video out of sync with audio. Tech Support had me try all sorts of things but couldn't fix that issue.
@Graphicious Жыл бұрын
@BobFlisser Not Rev, really. Rev is just a fancy way for Camtasia to ‘help’ you by assembling a project for you. The AI background removal is in Visual effects.
@BobFlisser Жыл бұрын
@@Graphicious Yes, that's what I've been using. It works much much better than the older "remove a color" effect. But that slight fringe is the one thing it can't do. Fortunately it isn't a show stopper and I'm probably the only person who notices it. I'm just doing training videos, not movies.
@Graphicious Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it annoys me too. I can usually avoid it if I have better lighting and enough contrast between clothing and background but there is still usually a small fringe. Not noticeable when I am small in the corner.

Making adjustments to the Tolerance gets rid of the rest of the spilled green
@Graphicious2 жыл бұрын
Of course, it works most of the time, but it depends on the lighting really.
