The hole in the flywheel has a taper with the same angle as the taper on the crankshaft. When the nut is tightened the flywheel taper slides up the taper on the crankshaft locking the two parts together. The woodruff key prevents the flywheel from spinning on the crankshaft. The puller is required to loosen the flywheel from the taper on the crankshaft. Not to over come the magnetism. Very good video.

Im sure you know by now its not magnetic force holding the flywheel in place by instead the tapered shaft to flywheel slightly pressed on in place. Nice video. Nice of you to make the effort to help others too. Thanks!

oh wow!, i noticed you have a bigger washer then the crown nut to hold the starter clutch. That is my problem with it coming off, because my washer is to small to hold it all. I will try that, wish me luck

How do I get the nut off I tried using a socket wrench but it didn’t work .
@NCYSTORE
@NCYSTORE 7 жыл бұрын
conner robertson conner robertson if you tried loosen it spray WD-40 "Blue Torch" let it sit for about 20-30 minutes and hit again with impact driver if any of those aren't available requires a little bit more elbow ranching and securing of the rear wheel to lock down the clutch from spinning freely. Put a bar in the rear wheel rim just make sure put some cloth so it doesn't get nicked your rim in the process of putting a more arm muscle forcing the clutch nut loose.

NCY STORE can I use a socket wrench instead of a impact driver to get the rotor off?
@NCYSTORE
@NCYSTORE 7 жыл бұрын
conner robertson my apologies I thought you're still working on the clutch nut I didn't realize you're going for the starter clutch nut assembly. Yes, you can remove the rotor with a socket wrench remove the rotor nut just remember lefty loosey righty tighty will only apply after this first nut after that doesn't apply to loosen you have to go clockwise. Also if you don't have the special flywheel puller socket you can hit up auto parts store which more than likely have the free tool loaned program just have to leave a security deposit like purchase upfront the claw puller that help you break free for first time the super strong magnetic force holding flywheel to the rotor. You hear almost like a firework pop once it off the flywheel.

Just wanted to make a PSA... the stater/flywheel is NOT held on with magnetic force😑 when the nut is torqued down it somewhat presses it onto the tapered shaft. The woodruff key doesn’t actually hold the stater in place it is just there to line it up for when you put it on. It is kept in time purely by the friction of the flywheel on the tapered end of the shaft! You guys gotta do more research.

Hi! Can you help me, I have a scooter with the same engine as this one. At first it started with a clicking sound of a solinoid while starting it , I just taped the starter with a screwdriver and tried again it started... following day I try to start and it gave me dizzy noise like ZING!!ZING!! from the engine like it's failing to turn...I took out the starter tested it and it's working....did a research and usually it's a starter Bendix...so I opened from the Bell housing side but I didn't find that starter Bendix so I was about to go for the stator side which you are doing in this video but I see no starter Bendix again.......I'm confused can you please help me!!!

Thanks for this i do have a question my gy6 150cc buggy gokart, has been sitting for a long time i got a new battery but it wont start it makes a sound similar to when the starter clutch is bad, i replaced it but it still will not start, i did notice the start clutch even with the new one can turn in both direntions by hand. Im wondering what the problem could be , it sounds like it just spins when turning the key.

Excellent information for the newbie, I commend you on your work, very thorough and great explanations too. I usually don't do this but I have to. It's a woodruff key I think you said Woodrow key. Just thought you should know, OH and a bolt requires a socket or wrench and a SCREW requires a screw driver, you keep calling bolts screws, just saying. Good job though.

4:29 ; ''only thing holding right now.... is the magnetic force''. To other viewers, doing first time stator work; The reason you need a puller is not due to the magnetic field, it is the tapered fit of the shaft to hub, or hub to shaft, once that bond is broken via the flywheel puller, there is a little bit of magnetic attraction, remove the flywheel carefully, be mindful not to damage the pulse coil adjacent to the flywheel. PS; On install, don't forget to align hub, with the keyway on the shaft, no need to force it, flywheel has a detente that slides into that groove on the shaft.

I was riding and my stator went out and wouldn't start. Replaced it and the magneto won't spin. Starter just spins. Brand new bike less than 50 miles on it. New ncy cdi upgraded spark plug coil. Everything tests good as far as the multi meter shows. When the magneto lines up with the switch it will try to spin the magneto and I'll get spark. But it only spins like 1 turn then stops. Battery fully charged and starter good. Is it my starter clutch or bad magneto? Only two things left besides valves which I haven't messed with cause it ran great before it died at the stop sign and wouldn't start. Don't wanna push the bike again that far. Lol

Hey when I turn my ruck key to the "on" position, my starter engages without me using the button. Is this a bad starter solenoid? I even disconnected the right controls, and got the same result. Any help is appreciated, thanks and be well

Sounds like the solenoid is stuck in the on position or there's a problem at the switch. Use a volt meter to see if you have 12 volts at the solenoid before you turn the key to the start position.

Can this all be done while the heads and piston are still installed?
@NCYSTORE
@NCYSTORE 6 жыл бұрын
Kawai hao if you're asking to remove all the stator unit while the cylinder is still installed yes however in order to split the crankcase open you eventually have to remove the cylinder jug but piston can still be attached to the crankshaft.

I recently switched to LED turn signals. The brake lights don’t work. Battery dies faster, and Headlight burn faster. Could switching out strator and Regulator fix this ? I have this same engine.
