LOL yeah I think every home mechanic does that on the rear brakes the very 1st time, and then figures out quickly why it doesn't work

should the e-brake not be engaged when removing calipers?

No. After the car up was up on jack stands to service the brakes, the e-brake was not applied.

I had the most difficult time if I used channel locks, regular pliers, etc. It was super difficult. It wasn't so smooth for me like shown in the video until I used vise grips where I could clamp down and leverage the cable out of the caliper.
