Hi Joe, great video thanks so much. I have the opposite issue that I would like to ask you. I have an infestation of couch growing in my Kikuyu lawn. It could be couch or a type of 'creeping oxalis' weed as the stringy surface roots sometime lead back to a yellow flower/clover cluster. My lawn is having a massive die off with lots of seeming dead Kikuyu thatch that has resulted in an uneven growing pattern. I used to have a beautiful Kikuyu lawn front and back but is dieing off and struggling to grow. I have recently identified the stringy surface root system weed all through my lawn. I think it must be couch, or creeping oxalis, I really dont know. I grows in all different areas of the lawn and its stringy runners can go for 30 to 60 centimeters before breaking off. I have a feeling this couch (I think) maybe strangling my Kikuyu. Would you agree with that? I have been manually weeding it out of my lawn for the last 3 months and it is an exhausting process. I have literally filled at least 3 full wheelie bins of the invasive couch since I began the exercise. Do you have any tips, strategies or solutions on how to speed up the process or getting rid of the stringy couch from my lawn. P.S. I am in Toowoomba, in Queensland. Thanks Joe.

Will a buffalo killing herbicide get rid of the buffalo runners choking my gardenias, or will it kill my gardenias too?
@LawnSolutionsAustralia3 жыл бұрын
I couldn't confirm how a lawn herbicide will go with your gardenias sorry. A herbicide that's not safe to use on buffalo like dicamba based products may make the buffalo sick, but it may not kill it. Safest option is to pull the buffalo runners out by hand, or chop them off with a shovel. They don't have underground runners so it is relatively easy to control and it won't pop up in your garden beds.

How long before buffalo dies back with dicamba? Seems to be very slow.
@LawnSolutionsAustralia4 жыл бұрын
Dicamba isnt designed to kill buffalo, it will make it sick and likely surpress it but it most likely wont kill it.

We have different concepts of lawn. The predominant running grasses I have are Kikuyu and Couch, there are no other running grasses in it. However, there are a plethora of clumping grasses in it and it is these I wish to eliminate, not the Kikuyu or Couch. I believe, this is the predominant situation for the majority of Australian suburban homes particularly in rural towns, why is there no advice on that?. It is only the well off that get these boutique turfs, ordinary people can't do that. How about helping ordinary people.

Hi Ken, being a national group of turf suppliers who supply kikuyu, couch, buffalo and zoysia grasses, we offer advice on all lawns and turf varieties. We also address in some of our other video and blogs specific issues involving clumping grasses like winter grass and rye. This video is simply to address one particular issue involving warm season grasses growing in lawns where they are not wanted. if you have a specific question or issue you need assistance with we would be more than happy to help.

@@LawnSolutionsAustralia Well, OK then. I live in central west NSW and have lawns that are heavily infested with numerous types of clumping grasses and other weeds common to rural areas. All probably way too numerous to identify or treat separately. After having severe drought and water restrictions last summer, these weeds have multiplied and exploded. I have pulled out a lot but it's absolutely a loosing battle. I need something simple that will get the problem maybe 80% under control. I did a bindi/clover treatment much earlier in the season but there is still much bindi, clover and other weeds that have bounced back after looking sick a while. Its all just totally out of control. I dug out a lot of nut weed from one area over the last 2 years, only had 3 plants this spring but then today noticed a very large patch out front. This is a relatively new weed to the area but clearly spreading very fast. The actual lawn grass hasn't started grown much yet. The only reason for mowing is the weeds. So I guess I need something that will kill most things except the Kikuyu, couch, worms and insects.

@@kenwebster5053 the nut grass is very hard to kill. It will keep coming up as the seed lives for years in the soil like a lot of weeds. I hope you have received some good advice from Lawn Solutions and good luck with establishing a lawn.
