How To Remove Recent Files from Microsoft 365 Homepage

As a Mac person I needed Mic.365 to work with clients. Can't believe how complex and counter intuitive the interface is. r. You're a gift from heaven to have guided me through a simple operation like deleting my own files. That should be available right in your Word folder, but no, navigate to OneDrive and take the (too many!) steps to delete a file. Thank you so so much!

Can't agree with you more. I am a retired sofware engineer and worked in computer software engineering for almost 35 years. To be honest, I could figure out an easy way to delete old Excel workbooks until after I watched this video. My public "Thank You" to the maker of this video.

Hi David, I am sorry you are having trouble. I retested the steps, and it still worked for me. Please confirm which version of MS365 you are using. I have the Business Standard subscription and currently using Windows 11. When the video was created, I was using Windows 10.

this worked for the webpage version of the app but when i open the desktop microsoft 365 app, the documents that i saved in other places on my hard drive still show up in "recently opened." Ive already deleted them from my hard drive and emptied my computer recycle bin as well but theyre still showing up. help please!

This isn't working for me, sadly. I've read through the comments and tried deleting my history as another person suggested, and that hasn't helped, either. I'm using version 18.2306.1061.0 of Microsoft 365. I wouldn't care so much, except every time I try to create a new Word document it brings up one of the old documents that I deleted instead of a blank document. I've tried the solution of unselecting "show the start screen when this application starts," but it didn't do anything.

I have the Microsoft 365 Business Plan and even with the latest updates (Oct 9), I am able to implement these steps. The screen is slightly different but I was able to delete the file in OneDrive and the Recycle Bin. I am unable to walk you through. I have to see it..

This did not hlep at all, i'm wanting to clear out the recent documents that are showing up under onedrive in the home button. The web does not give an option to clear this out. This didn't work. The files are gone, not in the OneDrive Recycle Bin but still show in recent. If I try to open them or go to the folder, it doesn't open the file or show them in the folder. This is very infuriating, Microsoft

What version are you using? Every Ms365 has a recycle bin, it may be saved in a different location.

@@stacykim1499 You have the latest version. Make sure you click on OneDrive App first vs. My Content in the left Nav. This method is the only way to get to the recycle bin. If you still have trouble, set up a Teams call where you can share your screen with me.
