When working with the abrasive pad, I like to add a little Kroil, which will help loosen the rust and protect it from reforming. Their Microil product is my favorite for lubricating the adjuster, and is what I use in my woobie to wipe tools down before putting them away.

When I lived in a very humid country I had to buy a humidity cabinet for my camera gear. These cabinets come in a range of sizes from small to large with sliding drawers. It might be a way around having to install insulation and HVAC in your workshop. I still regularly oil and wax my tools in a dry climate and ensuring that they are not clogged with humidity attracting wood shavings 👍

I apply a good layer of homemade paste wax to all my tools whenever I service them. It's really helped keep my tools functioning well.

I find using a purple pad and WD40 works really well for stubborn spots. Then you can use a green or grey pad to blend it in with the rest of the cast iron. I don’t live in high humidity so it’s not as big problem. I’ve use paste wax and paraffin to lubricate and protect from more rusting. Need to do it more often to keep up even in low humidity.

I think oil or wax is great if you care about how it looks. But if you are all about protecting it forever, you can use clear paint or some grease for the internal parts. I have done this to all of my not electrical tools, and it works great, i can leave them outside for days and no rust at all.
