Mike, great information as always. Thank you for always being willing to share your vast knowledge. What can be done if anything to polish out scratches and cloudiness on eisinglass on our boat?
@Plekteret04Ай бұрын
This is a real professional work. Why Im watching this, I've got scratces on a Turntable dustcover. A common problem. This must be the best video to resolve this. I will later on take the dustcover under the showerhead or use a duster. I think A&T beadmaker can be a final closs protection. Greeting from Norway

I really appreciate this content. It won’t get the views or “likes” of videos on the newest last step product etc. b/c so few of us will will attempt this type of correction but this is exactly the type of thing that I need to learn as I tend to detail more classic cars than most detailers. Keep them coming!

Thanks Tom. I get asked to work on a lot of interesting projects like saving the back window on this removable Corvette hardtop. Even though Plexiglas is easy to work with, besides the sanding aspect, the most important other factor is using great abrasive technology. Any abrasive technology that works without micro-marring soft paint will tend to work on Plexiglass. I've had nothing but great luck using Dr. Beasley's NSP Primers on both soft paint and soft Plexiglas. -Mike Phillips

Nice video! My race car lexan has a stress mark i guess from body flexing and looks like a shattered tempered glass. Is there a way to fill them or do anything to it? TIA
@mikephillipsrealworlddetailing17 күн бұрын
Sorry to say but there is no fix for stress cracks in Lexan except to replace the window. See what I wrote to another person in the comments here, Here you go, this is the first 5 paragraphs from the accompanying article I wrote for this project. Please read carefully. The simple answer is "no", at least not without some testing first because polycarbonate tends to be much harder and thus a LOT more difficult to work on especially the sanding aspect. It's super easy to sand plastic, the tricky part is removing 100% of the sanding marks. So be careful when working on polycarbonate. And for what it's worth, if the polycarbonate is LEXAN - then this plastic tends to be coated on both sides and I've NEVER been able to fix it and I've never seen anyone else fix it. Here's the first 5 paragraphs from my matching article. *BEFORE YOU START: Is It Lexan or Plexiglas?* Before you start polishing, you should find out if the surface you’re working with is truly Plexiglas or if it’s a different kind of material like Lexan. Lexan is a trademarked brand name for polycarbonate plastic invented by Dr. Daniel W. Fox also the inventor of General Electric’s LEXAN polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is not as easily modified to be UV resistant as acrylic plastic and for this reason companies like General Electric, when manufacturing Lexan plastic windows apply a special coating to both sides of the Lexan plastic window. Because of this coating, Lexan is much harder than Plexiglas. This makes it almost impossible to polish. In fact, I’ve NEVER seen it sanded and polished. I’ve also never seen Lexan with any swirls and scratches polished out to be clear like glass or clear like it was when it was new. On top of this, Lexan has a secondary coating applied to normally both sides to provide extended UV protection. Attempting to sand or polish on Lexan will compromise this coating. WARNING: Before polishing on any plastic window, do everything you can to find out exactly what type of plastic it is you’re working on. This will save you time and prevent you from damaging the window! If you cannot find out exactly what type of plastic it is you’re working on, then be sure to do a “Test Spot” to a small area before working on the entire plastic window. A Test Spot is where you test out the products, tools, pads and process to a small area and PROVE your choice of products, tools, pads and process will work to fix this one small area before tackling the entire window. If you cannot fix a small area, you will not be able to fix the entire window and you’ll be glad you only experimented to a small area. I actually replied with the answer to the question below but for some reason, KZbin loses my replies. @@kidhenderson8260 - Good to hear and thanks for sharing. Because plastics vary greatly between types and brands, it's always just a good practice to do a little testing before doing any sanding and buffing. If a person can improve or restore to factory-new in a small area - they will then have the confidence to tackle the entire window. And apologies my typed-out answers keep disappearing, maybe KZbin don't like me? LOL -Mike
