How to remove spare tire cover on 2004 Toyota Rav 4

I thought it was dryrotted, but it came off nicely. Here is how its done.
Who knows how to put it back on, but look how nice the tire is after being protected for 10 years. Looks factory new!

There are no videos showing how to get this back on. Probably because its never been done. I tried mine several different days, several different ways, several different time. Its impossible.

jjdecker95 the same way it came off best to start at top but only put it on a little then work your way down then once it's on you continue the process a little more .if you put the top or any side all the way on it's impossible to stretch it enough to get the other side on .my girl has one and I choose every word in the book while doing it and after several attempts different ways that's the best solution I could come up with .unfortunatly the older they are the worse it is because the elastic and vinyl part when dry rotted is more difficult when it's not as pliable when new .key point too it's easier and harder at the same time if by yourself but opening the door helps give you more room to stretch the bottom ad prevents scratching the top of the bumper.could they have made a better design , every person who has done this will tell you a dumbass designed that cover or never changes it himself so he doesn't care lol.

Pray for me I’m going to take mine off tomorrow. It’s ripped where the rubber meets the plastic so maybe I’ll end up cutting it out, then putting my new cow print tire cover on 😎🐄

Ours has a zippered flap on the top quarter of the tire, on the fucking inside. Now that the zipper's stuck solid, the cover can't be pulled off without ripping the thing. I'd like to smack the Toyota designer that thought this would be funny.

Had to use the spare the other day. Poor technician must've been frustrated. Now the tire is not fully cover and the cover ripped. Should I be mad at him or Toyota?

Someone who tried to put the cover back on my 2004 RAV 4 literally dislocated his knee in the process. He had to go to the hospital. After that, I took it off myself and got rid of it. Yes...horrible design.

I had the same problem until I read the instructions on the inside of the cover. Now it’s not that much work taking it off and putting it back on

Isn't there a clamp/latch on the bottom of the tire you have to "unlatch" to remove the tire cover?

My 2004 Rav4 owner's manual shows there's supposed to be that latch you mentioned, but it literally doesn't exist on my car. And I haven't had any reason to remove my tire cover since purchasing car, and I assume the owner before me didn't either, the cover has been on for such a long time that the plastic/rubber doesn't stretch out nearly as much as what is shown in this video. I'm pretty sure the cover shrunk and lost all elasticity over the years and I'll have to cut off the cover eventually.

Ridiculous. The owners manual says there is a latch at the bottom, but they lie. From now, the spare will behind the back seat, with some dead tire filling the cover on the back door.

This spare tire cover doesn't have that feature. My Rav4 is a 2006 and is like in the video and I just had to replace a flat today and replacing the flat was easier than pulling this tire cover off. I love Toyotas but this was a horrible design. I guess the latch came later on as a fix to this design.
