First the cd player, then the aux input malfunctioned. After the digital tuner went, I punched it and took out the clock/display making the unit completely useless. $25 on eBay and your excellent video and I now have a fully functional Shaker 500 again. Thanks for the tutorial.

Thank you for this! It made the radio swap in my daughter's 2005 much easier! The HVAC control switch removal on the passenger side was a PITA, but it came apart with a little perseverance lol.
@maccduff16024 жыл бұрын
PITA agree. Why couldn't they have made this like the left-side connector, a standard clip-lock one?

Extremely helpful. Only issue I had was that the grey lever on my 2008 mustang is somewhat different, and there is a little lock button on the black housing that has to be depressed to keep from breaking the lever.

My cd player in my stock Shaker system is on the fritz and draining my battery. After watching your video I don't feel like this change out is going to be difficult. Great video, thanks for uploading it.
@maccduff16024 жыл бұрын
I had to remove the radio to get out a jammed CD. Turns out the CD player doesn't work. Now I am also experiencing a drained battery. I thought it might be the HVAC connection, per my comments above. How did you know the CD player was doing the draining?
@myproctolog1st4 жыл бұрын
@@maccduff1602 it was pure luck. I happened to forget a bag of groceries in the car. I came out and the cd player was clicking and whirring like it was trying to read the cd or eject it. No key in the ignition, I just unlocked the doors with my fob. I had been using an audio cable to play music from my phone up to then. This made me get off my duff and make the switch on decks. Hope this helps.

Great video. I used it to install my JVC Din in my 2006 Mustang. BUT, you do not pull down the gray bar on the passenger side (after taking the screws out of the faceplate). The gray bar is in a down position already, locking the connection to the Defrost/heat selector. There is also a tiny black tab that holds the gray bar down. I found it better to unplug the fan control on the driver side, then pull out the faceplate a little and unplug the top 3 connectors. I discover I could then pull the faceplate out far enough that I could depress the tiny black tab and pull the gray bar UP. Otherwise, thanks for the video, I doubt I could have put my system in without your instructions.

John Wray Thank you for your comment! You saved me at least another hour of trying to get it off. Very helpful!

Thanks for the info. Could you explain "The gray bar is in a down position already, locking the connection to the Defrost/heat selector. " more. The lever looks to be up when locked. ?? Do you mean down in the sense of "engaged"? Mine was thin metal unlike what appears to be plastic here. Perhaps these differ year to year. My Mustang is 2008.
@johninmoapa83554 жыл бұрын
@@maccduff1602 I'm afraid they're different. My son had an 08 and it was different from my 06. He's moved on to 20 Bullitt, but I'm keeping my 06 forever. My terminology of down means engaged.
@maccduff16024 жыл бұрын
@@johninmoapa8355 I have a 2008, which I too would like to keep forever. I had to remove the radio to get out a jammed CD. I flipped the lever down (vertically) after pressing the little tab between the lever "arms" to release it. When I reinstalled, per the comment of Edmond Dunn above, apparently I didn't get it tight and my battery was drained. Rechecking, I noticed that one lever arm was on the outside of the unit, not between the unit and connector. My lever is a flimsy metal one that easily has enough bend to allow this. It doesn't even look as sturdy as the plastic lever in the video. So I fitted the arm back in between the unit and connector, and it seems to snap right up in place. Charged the battery and even had it checked. All seems good. Except the next day when I started the car, it stuttered before turning over - as if the battery was weak. Grr...

I think that I will soon need to R+R the unit in my 06 Mustang convertible and this was a great video. However, like several others here, I think my biggest problem will be with the HVAC controls/terminals.

If that lever which disconnects the wire harness to the radio is not fully re-engaged once the work is completed your battery will constantly drain killing your battery
@maccduff16024 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure I had that lever to the right side HVAC fully the engaged, then a week later I had a dead battery. Coincidence? I'm thinking not. Lever is up. Anything more on "fully re-engaged"? Seems like it went back up easier than it came down. Update: This lever is flimsy and not particularly well mounted to pivot. When I reinstalled, the passenger side pivot was outside of the panel side connector that this fits into. That means not a good connection. Disconnected, then reconnected making sure the pivot was between the two connecting pieces - as shown in the video's picture. When I got it back up, I put a ID badge clip there to ensure this stays in place. Hope this does it.

Thank you, I changed my stereo this weekend, this video was exactly all I needed! Do you have a quick video for a V8 swap? Just kidding, thanks again!
@ZuluLifesaBeech-5 жыл бұрын
All, my son could use some help on his hardtop 2005 Mustang V6! He and a friend replaced the dead stock radio with a newer, nicer Pioneer radio head unit and 4 speakers. Well, radio works great but when it is on the dashboard turn signal indicators, 4-way hazard indicator, and the high beam light indicator doesn't work but all the external lights work. He has external turn signals, 4 way hazards, and bright lights all working. What could the problem be??? Note, the cigarette lighter was inop and it didn't even have an electrical lead attached to it but, we never had a problem with that before. Thanks for any and all advice.

You do not pull down on the lever. There is a tab to release when it is in the down position between the two gray pieces. Then you push UP to release it.

The picture in the video is gray lever is in the up position which is the release position.
