Hey there! I'm having a similar problem with a stripped screw, only difference is that it's on the back of a desktop PC case. I know this method would most likely work, but I'm worried about the vibrations caused by the drill impacting the internal parts, especially the hard drives. Would you absolutely recommend removing all the parts, (MOBO, GPU, HDDs, etc.) before drilling into the screw, or am I needlesssly worrying?
@PC_MonkeyАй бұрын
I wouldnt worry about the vibrations :)
@angelf2006Ай бұрын
Hey, do you have any drill bits that you recommend? I tried drilling into the screw, and it destroyed it to the point where it looks circular now, but now it won't dig in any further. No matter what speed or how hard in I press, it won't drill in more. I'm just using a titanium drill bit. Should I buy a stronger one, or try something else to get the screw out?

First time ever buying myself a gpu, literally the first time to fit inside my small form factor PC. It's a low profile single slot card, but they sent it in a regular sized single slot bracket instead of the included low profile one? Anyway, so I removed 7 of the 8 screws no problem but the final one got stripped. It's one of the ones at the front right above the hdmi input... so trying things like putting glue and a not on the screw, or wd40, just seems like it could be dangerous as I don't want anything dripping into the hdmi slot. I don't have a drill, and I'm trying to budget at the moment as the card was about $300 CAD (A yeston rtx 3050), but I would consider it an investment so I think I'll give your method a try. Thanks! ... Only problem now is finding a drill bit small enough for a screw this little. It's like 1mm, if that.

Hi! I have a stripped screw Philips 00 head in an xps 9550. The 1/16” drill bit is about the same width as the thread, so I’m afraid it’ll obliterate the thread. I figure I should go for a 1/32” drill bit which will drill into the center of the thread. If you would share your thoughts on that it would be amazing!! Thanks :)
@PC_Monkey2 жыл бұрын
Yes, if the bit is larger than or the exact same size as the thread, it most likely will ruin it. Another screw most likely wont take to it. So you should go smaller :)
