How To Remove Surface Rust
Can we remove rust from any metal surface, including old nuts and bolts using this chemical product call EVPO-RUST Rust Remover? My Friend Pete does an extensive review and usage on it and finds out ???? .... Watch the video for all the answers if this stuff is the best way to remove rust from your car or truck, or anything metal that has rust on it. Extreme Fail? or EXCELLENT PRODUCT? thats the real question!

I have been using vinegar to remove rust for years and it works great. For larger panels like on a car, I use molasses covered by plastic and leave it for a few days and then wash it off to reveal clean rust free steel

Todd, I guess they still sell molasses in grocery stores. Baking isle, I guess. Wonder how it would measure in a "Side-by-Side Test?" Interesting thought. Have a safe couple of months until we have to "Buy" a calendar! Still waiting on my bank toaster after opening a new account! DK, Omaha, NE. (Don't like the snow anymore)

@@deankay4434 yes it's still sold in grocery stores and while it is more expensive it has the advantage of being thicker with the ability to stay in place even vertical or overhead, but it is a bit slower than vinegar. There are probably some videos here on KZbin that are useful that explain how to use it for rust removal

Hey Pete, Thanks for the DIY tips. I have found tumbling hardware in vinegar cleans it well as long as there is no caked on grease. I made mine from an old wiper motor, a 5 gal pail, and skate wheels. I put it in the shed and let it go overnight. Maybe the HF rock tumbler would do the same.

Great idea Lane. I bet McMaster-Carr sells the little ceramic cones that work on many things. Coated header came out of a ceramic cone tumbler after ceramic wash, but you need a 55 gallon plastic drum and dryer belt, motor and support wheels. Hey wait a minute.... DK, Omaha, NE. (Got to see the SAC air museum 24 miles West of Omaha near Clayton Andersons home town, the astronaut. I saw the cut-away of a real radial 16 cylinder at the original SAC museum, located on the old Martin Bomber plant grounds. Yes, we had a Rosie the riveter here too! Stay safe. I lost the year to 3 lumbar surgical procedures. Still can't walk without a cain. 4 fusion, 1 done twice, RFA, now electric implant they put in upside down. Still have that to pay. Should have done the weather!

According to the instructions, Evaporust works best with the solution heated. I took this to the test and the solvent works 100% better when hot.. Try it again, Pete!

Good video Pete. I have a question. If we spray 'epoxy sealer' on the washer that you wire wheeled, will the rust eventually rust through, or eventually 'bubble' up? Or; is the rust treated enough that the decaying action is stopped? Thanks for the video Pete. I buy a lot of stuff from Harbor Freight too. I am happy about the quality their tools have stepped up too through the years. Phillip Hall

I have always used muriatic acid. i even use it to remove rusted nuts and such. I have cleaned engine blocks people gave me free. One was a BBC 454 engine. I used a garden pump 2 or 3 gallon pump. Honed the cylinders and valve lifter holes and made a good block that ran 10:30 in my drag car for 10 years with no problems. I have some in a spray bottle to remove bolts and nuts on anything. Use another spray bottle with baking soda and water to neutralize muriatic acid. Best way to clean this kind of stuff that works and is cheap.

Very interesting, if not base, not acid, no strong smell and still cleans. This makes me wonder as I a seen molasses used to clean metal which has little to oder. Interesting Pete!

@@newriver8940 Thanks "Newriver" for the molasses connection. For me, it is always a process of elimination after fixing cars, my brain heads that direction. I don't know where the entire year went after it warmed, but please, have a safe November, Thanks giving and then some Christmas action if you practice it or not, then here come a new calendar. Banks used to give them away, but now, if you are allowed in the lobby, you walk off with a bank ink pen, steel gates drop and you surrender then pen. ;), joking, but I never got that toaster dang it! So I have a hood I had about given up on until discovering your videos and a few others using similar methods. The hood is all down to bare steel with the classic light rust everywhere. Not just a surface rust layer a sander would take off. So my plan is to soak paper towels and lay them across the hood, wrap all that in plastic wrap and let sit overnight. So when I open it the next day just wipe it all down and sand? Should be fine to paint over the blackened previously rusted areas? The rust won’t bleed back through the new primer/paint/clear? Thanks for any help

thanks Pete, this is a great video and exactly the product I been wanting to try when restoring my 57 Plymouth Belvedere. I think i am going to setup a water sprinkler to run this chemical over a fender and have it drain into a plastic pool and just keep recycling that.. I think this would be much cleaner and healthier for my shop and my lungs than sand blasting. I let you know how it turns out or hell, you can try it too :)

Excellent review my friend Pete! I might try immersing greasy nuts and bolts in a cup of carb cleaner overnight first? Maybe blow it with compressed air to evaporate the carb cleaner faster then throw it in the evapoRust- I guess it would be a little more toxic but great vid, I'm gonna try this product, I've had a gallon of it in the garage for a year now and just haven't gotten to it somehow but the floors of my '88 F150 have bad surface rust and soon I will deal with it, "soon" because of the inspiration of this vid so thank you!

Ok My Friend Pete, now that the parts are clean of rust, how do you stop them from rusting again right away? I have done this with vinagre and the parts started to rust right away again. Also I tried to get rust off the trunk of my car and I put vinagre on a towel and left it there. the vinagre etched the metal and I don't know how to fix that. Will this product the same thing to the metal?

You forgot to mention its greatest benefit besides rust removal... it's safe on rubber, paint, ect. I have actually used this product in a continual spray underneath cars. The product drains into a tub and is pumped out again. It won't dissolve grease markings from the factory either or paint when trying to save an original car.
