⭕️ Producer - MUST SEE! ⭕️ Whilst creating our Nu Disco drum stems pack, I came across an excellent workflow that I had to share - you can remove the drums and separate the bass from ANY 2-track material using Izotope's RX Music rebalance features - This will work in any DAW but I demonstrate here in Ableton Live

You can now use TRAX instruments to make sample packs
It's with great pride we announce that effective from June 1, 2023, all F9 playable instruments and kits have been granted license for usage in the development of audio loops. These loops can be included in commercial sample packs designed for your personal use, your individual sampler store, or for third-party platforms such as Loopcloud, Splice, Arcade, NI sounds and more. There's only one restriction to bear in mind: the midi. When creating for these releases, you must compose original musical or rhythmic parts and avoid using any midi or musical motifs from this or any other F9 release.
This updated licensing term now encompasses stem creation and "track-outs," which are frequently seen in beat marketplaces. It also applies to ghost production and collaborative projects. Our goal is to provide you with even greater flexibility and creative potential in your music production endeavours.

Here are other options for the same operation - Acorn Audio's (excellent ) 'Acustica' editor ( no relation to the Italian company ) - acondigital.com/products/acoustica-audio-editor/ (try the demo - it's a function called 'remix' within the app and has some additional options - Also this website for pay as you go - www.lalal.ai/ ... Now from what I can see they all use an identical process as i tested RX against Acustica and they near enough identical in output and believe there is a freeware thing knocking around that also does it, but it's terribly tweaky - anyone who knows of this, let me know and I'll add here

As ever, this is fantastic knowledge. I saw this shortly after your excellent Kick overview (plan to use that in Logic, Ableton and my SP404 MK2), and I was curious to check this video out, as I've never used RX before. After this, I ended up getting the iZotope subscription. That RX looks mighty useful. Appreciate it, James!

@@F9Audio Thanks for the tip. I downloaded trials of both RX10 and RipX and found RipX superior for separation. I get the impression that RX10 is more of an audio clean-up tool with the stem isolation thrown in as an amazing bonus feature, whereas RipX is a dedicated stem separator and editor. As a bass player, I've always dreamed of sucking the bass out of Tower of Power or other old funk records so I can be the bass player, and RipX did a cleaner job and with less (as in, not any) top-end bleed. I'm also a DJ, so was pleased to hear that drum and vocal stems had less top-end warbling in RipX too. The world of tech you've just introduced me to is completely game-changing - HUGE thank you! Just bought RipX (it's usually an absolute steal at £79 but is on sale until April 11th for just £63. The price is as mind-blowing as the tech).

Would be interested to see an updated version of this video, showing a) the better stem separation options available and b) a live disco track that isn't perfectly quantized. I say this as an RX9 owner who no longer uses RX9 for separation, as it's fallen way behind other options.
@F9Audio
@F9Audio Жыл бұрын
Why not make one Tim ? Always great to others workflow as it adds to the community - Ripx is spectacular now at this I must say .. there’s no major difference in the splitting quality between quantised and un-quantised - if anything unquantized versions of original tracks will be better as the artefacts of the quantise process won’t be so present but it really depends on the source more than timing - splitting from MP3/AAC never an ideal result .. I’d always suggest getting the source in time 1st though as dealing with multiple stems from a grid perspective is tricky depending on your DAW One thing I did find is Melodyne is amazing at getting things in time We don’t use external copyrights in our examples for obvious KZbin reasons - the majors who have gobbled up huge swathes of Independant historical labels are immensely active on all video sites that share media now

Probably not - I went from RX5 to 8 so I can't really comment - from what I can gather this is an off-the-shelf algo as it's included in lots of other apps and even a web based solution so I reckon unless that gets updated it'll remain the same quality - A bit Like Z-plane's time-stretch

@@MrRicksym For working in ableton, you really want WAV or AIF files over MP3 - MP3's are decoded in Ableton so may as well start with the best going in no matter the source ... You can try Davinci resolve - It's a huge app but you can render out the audio of a video to 24 bit WAV in the "fairlight' page and the main render section - it's 100% free but a steep learning curve for even simple stuff as it's a fully featured video app

the only thing i don't understand is why recommend having the track in time with the metronome? doing this before using RX, assuming one is editing an unquantized 70s disco song, implies actually warping the song first. is it not better to use the best quality possible (ie without time stretching) when using RX and if time stretching is necessary, to warp the track after using RX?
@fraserwoodhouse4606
@fraserwoodhouse4606 2 жыл бұрын
Harder to automatically warp without the drum beats
@F9Audio
@F9Audio 2 жыл бұрын
At the front I talk about having the track in time with your DAW first so do the warping with the beats in to get it in time, then all the resulting files will be on the right tempo map - you can drop them back in , put them in a "pro' stretch mode and they will all track tempo changes

Now from what I can gather - all of this kind of processing comes from the same algorithm and it's either a piece of code that's licensable, or it's open-source ... given the number of services now using it ( and how aggressive some of the players like IZtope like to be ) my general feeling is it's the latter - I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was cooked up in some kind of university-based AI incubator and published as a paper ... The UIs for each are different, and the split options are slightly different but they all seem to be based on the same process and I've tested RX against Acorn Audio's Acustica editor and the results were near-on identical for one style of extraction -So basically - whatever floats your boat / suits your workflow and needs

This seems like a great way to fairly quickly get some ideas down when you're not able to actually play music like myself. It makes me think of the early days of House when people were just putting drum machines over Disco loops. 1984 etc
