How to Remove the Third Brake Light on the 2003-2009 Toyota 4Runner (Without Spoiler)

This is a video on how to remove the third brake light and the bulb on the 2003-2009 Toyota 4Runner. This 4Runner does not have the rear spoiler option.
Note : Do not touch the new bulb with your fingers, the oils on your fingers will cause the bulb to burn out quicker.

I think mine is a led and the whole thing gets replaced and its only available from the dealer of course and it has a spoiler

I didn't pay close enough attention. I tried to gouge the one out on my spoiler version. I cracked the lens. You have to get an offset phillips screwdriver and remove the 2 screws on the backside of the spoiler. Its kind of a pain but when the screws are out the whole works just slips right out.

If I bought a new spoiler with a light, would I just be able to plug that light in the same port that you plugged your new one into? As in, replacing the 3rd brake light with a new one.

No, it's different, for the one with the spoiler you need to get behind the spoiler

Он неправильно вытаскивал отвёрткой силой ! Надо с низу засунуть тонкую железную линейку и ей потихоньку отжимать фиксаторы !!! У вас скорее всего проблема ,когда вы тянули с низу силой то вытянули наружу нижний железный край !!!

You can take a plastic panel popping tool and remove it with that but if you have one you probably already know that haha

My bulb doesn’t look like that. In fact, it’s not even a bulb! I hope the previous owner didn’t do a mickey mouse job and used something else? Looks like a little square with sensors, any idea what kind it may be?

You may have an aftermarket led brake light. That's what it appears like to me. The stock ones are like this.

Gabriel Villasenor Yes you can! For the brake light, I would recommend a warm white because you want the light to show up as red as possible. However, the cool led would be brighter.
