How to remove valve guide part 1

Had a lean condition under boost wipe out my 4.6L engine and insides immaculate on 7 cylinders with 1 cylinder piston completely disintegrated and intake valve bent with half of the guide sheared off and shrapnel on exhaust valve as well. other then that everything is good going to replace both of those valves and guides and keep the heads so for me doing this way for just 2 valve guides without buying the "proper" tools might work but if I was doing a complete head or "heads" I would invest in a valve guide removal pin for my particular vehicle ... this is very very very labor intensive for such a simple job and quite frankly the way you were banging the head around on all those metal tools and fucking up the head gasket surface does not really inspire confidence on your shade tree mechanical know how ... but for 1 or 2 guides this might be do able without investing in tooling to do it properly

Its been awhile and actually invested in the valve guide removal tool (for air hammer) works great on intake valves but exhaust not so much. End up shattering the top part of the guide (pulverized) and the guide on exhaust sides will not budge. Tool was only $20 but investing another $20 for the same tool but you can use a hammer seems like a waste because the amount of force needed without a shop press is excessive. Going to use this route to remove the exhaust side guides .

They make drivers for knocking guides out. Takes maybe 30 seconds with those.

To remove and install the valve guides wasn't that bad as long as you got a hydraulic press. if it's your first time it will take longer.

they are made of brass. easy to cut.

Taps are made from hardened tool steel and designed to tap into steel .. brass is a cake walk as would any valve guide unless you got a made in china tap set in which case you deserve to run into problems for buying cheap shit. taps are for fixing problems why would you invest in shit tools to fix problems?
