Spencer Colgan Wallpaper & Painting No it is not. Only idiots use wallpaper today. Very rare to use wall paper. Last time I used it was 20 years ago. Used paintable to put over wood paneling. Only to save money on pull paneling and place drywall.

Wallpaper used to be though, which is why videos like this are so popular. In older homes it’s so so common to find wallpaper over sheet rock underneath paint because it’s been painted over so these videos help new homeowners successfully remove the awful mess that wallpaper is

😏I am a professional paper hanger in Houston Tx for the last 30 ys and i remove glue and prep different. 😲I just prime my walls ( oil or latex primer.i prefer oil base) float the walls and prime again,then i saize the walls and is ready to hang.☺less work,less time,less mess.😃great vid. and good explanation.👍well done !

@@furryplantsandcoins9070you can wash the walls down with warm water or apply primer (oil base or water base) over the dry glue floating the wall means.apply drywall mud or compound over the sheetrock to make the surface smooth and flat before you hang your wallpaper..

So the next step is to follow with a coat of oil base primer then use joint compound for any needed repairs? I assume I cannot use joint compound first as that introduces water to the sanded adhesive. I am removing wallpaper and painting.

OMG this is the absolute worse video on how to remove wallpaper glue EVERY! Dude all you have to do is get a paint pan dampen the roller in water mixed with fabric softener roll it on the walls and scrape it off or use a sponge with a rough side made for removing wallpaper. Krud kutter makes a glue remover that works well too. I just removed 40yr old wallpaper for a 3,000 sq ft house that even had paper on the ceiling in about a week. Oh yeah we also used one of those one gallon sprayer bottles you can buy for spraying weeds and filled it the mixture. It gets your floor wet, but since we're changing the carpet it didn't matter.

We use sugar soap mixed with water and a sponge 🧽 then a large scraper to run over the surface to rub off all that lovely stuff fun and games! I guess prime with an adequate primer such as oil based or something would be a good safety net

He is making wall paper removal extremely difficult. Most contractors do this. People just use downy fabric softener and a sponge come right off. Do not listen to this poorly trained man.

Mike, I am going to be nice to you in my response even though you don’t pay attention to the video title or the contents of the video; this is not about Wallpaper Removal, it is about removing glue from the wall after the wallpaper is removed. I get a kick out of people these days; everyone is so ignorant because nobody pays any attention to what you’re listening to or reading. You’re not going to get glue off of the wall with laundry fabric softener. You my friend are the man who doesn’t know what he’s talking about because you don’t even know what you’re listening to; did you have a drink before you watch this video? If so, you are forgiven

Spencer Colgan Wallpaper & Painting It is easier to remove glue with Downy Softener. Sanding is by far harder. By far. If you have some of the older tougher glues use 409 cleaner or lysol cleaner. Quicker, easier and more effective.

One suggestion is to hook your shop vac to your sander to collect all the dust. I can sand any where with that method with very minimal dust. Nice post

@@risingsun82 yeah eventually . We burn through a Dewalt palm sander every year to 18 months ( thats the best for this kinda sanding) but rush drying with air movers and using 20 on both coats . (Only got time for 2 ). It is the only method i found that smooths it out with hardly any mess and does a nice job as long as your pad is nice and not all worn out. I go through vacuums too. The home depot ones last the longest. I have a filter and a bag on the vacuum so if the bag breaks theres a backup filter. Vacuums last 2 years . Theyll start making a screeching noise when you turn them off that means the motor is about shot , sanders wont keep rpms. Im a painting contractor and do hospital and Dr. Offices mostly so we only have from friday at 6pm til monday morning at 4 am to do whatever job we're doing. Ive tried every sanding method there is . Not a fan of the porter cable rotary sander thats made for sheetrock. It kicks up to much dust and leaves gouges in your finish.. the hand sanders with the vac. Attachment are ok but the grid paper you gotta use leaves lines in your finish . And it wears your arms out. Hope that helps. Ive been doing this since 1995.
