Oh I get it, if using a Micro SD to SD card adapter make sure the adapter isn't in the locked state. If you're not sure then eject the adapter and check the side to make sure the lever isn't in the locked position.

Works every time.... in Windows.... 1. insert the USB drive 2. dont open or format it directly 3. right click on "my computer" and go to "manage" 4. in computer management window click on disk management option 5. right click on the removable disk (i,h,e....) 6. select format

Guys, if you use your SD Card on your microSD ADAPTER, see if it's locked on the adapter, if yes just switch back to unlock it with your finger and try again! Worked for me :)

I FIXED IT!!!Just plug in the usb and then run any aplication or movie on it. When the movie or aplication is runing unplug the usb from computer. It worked for me:)

For all, when the above option doesnt work, try the following. The above option didnt worked for me either. I tried this and it worked. Steps 1) To remove the write protection, simply open your Start menu, and click on Run. Type in regedit and press Enter. This will open the registry editor. 2) The next step is to navigate to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies 3) Double-click the WriteProtect key located in the right side pane and set the value to 0. Go to the Data Value box and press OK. To finish, simply restart your system, and then reconnect your USB pen drive to the computer.

I would add that if the USB disk drive is in a printers usb port it may not work - you may still get the write protection error even though the disk is no longer read-only. Plugging the drive into a regular usb port on your PC should work as expected.

For SD cards: make sure that the write protection switch is not switched ON. I did this mistake and I wasted 30 min of my life trying to figure out how to remove write protection lol.

Val Generalao download this program www.patriotmemory.com/partners/usb_restore/Restore.rar. Extract, click on Restore (make sure only your USB stick is in your computer). This will format the drive, remove any write protection, and return it to factory condition.

I know this video is old but this will probably still help some people If none of the solutions in the vid work, take a close look at your USB or your memory card. It's quite possible that there IS a switch that you didn't notice previously: i had a small usb for a couple of months and never realized the tiny little cheeks bastard of a switch that was at the far back preventing me from editing and copying stuff you my drive. Funny, my usb said write protected. I pulled it out and put it in again. Now Windows wants to format it for some reason, since an HP USB Disc Storage Format Tool, V2.0.6 was running at the time perhaps. So, I just killed the W7 window, and rechecked the "Create a DOS startup disc" (using files located at a folder on my desktop), and it now begins formatting the usb without the warning issue. Strange.

I have a variant how to remove Write protection on your USB Flash drive Step 1. insert your CD with Windows XP Step 2. insert your USB Flash drive into your PC Step 3. reboot your system (keep in mind that you are about to fix the issue about your usb not installing windows XP) Step 4.Boot form CD Step.5 Press any key to boot form CD….. Step 6.Follow the instruction properly till you reach the step on witch partition you like to install windows Step 7. Locate your USB Flash drive and delete it Step 8. Reboot your system Step 9. When your system booted to windows go to my computer right-click click to manage step 10. go to disk management and repartition your USB to normal condition and format with FAT32Done!!!! you have fixed the issue with your usb flash drive
