I was just going to go replace mine because I cut mine in half while weeding...thanks for saving me a bunch of money!

When I buy new hoses, I still end up cutting them again. Better to fix! Thanks for watching.

Yes, you can mend them. The problem is that mine are getting so old I have more patches than😀 hose.

@@deerparkhomeshop2471 my soaker hose is the exact size as yours, you have amazon links to two different sizes. Maybe I missed it, but which one worked the best for yours, 3/8, or 1/2 inch? It must have been racoons who cut mine! And just want to rant a little here. US really needs to change to metric system, because what kind a system uses "3/8" of anything to measure something??? Not sure why Americans are so afraid of metric, it's so much easier than this big mess of so called measurements system! You use 10, 100, 1000...that's it.

@@nightskylights4501 I replied to this once and my response seems to have disappeared, so if you get answered twice, that's why. I used the 3/8" dia. barb, but because my hose is old and brittle, the rubber tends to split. That's why I use the 1/4" plastic pex tube on my old hoses. It's o.d. is 3/8" but it slides easily into the hose. I replaced the link on the video description. Thanks for reaching out to me.

Hey HandyDaddy, great video! I appreciate that you are sharing your knowledge with us. I grew up with the mindset of repairing things or repurposing items, rather than throwing things away unless you have to. My dad was born during the depression and taught me a lot of skills. He was a finish carpenter, and my favorite thing to do as a kid was sweeping sawdust off everything in the shop with a foxtail brush. I would use scrap wood to make things. With a few bottle caps and 16 penny nails, I'd turn some blocks into a pair of walkie-talkies. I made a bed for my dolls out of pine, and sewed a quilt to go with it. I'm rambling, but seeing your carpentry shop reminded me of those days. My dad's still going strong, Cause a country boy can survive. Glad to know ya, and I can't wait to checkout your other videos.

Thanks. Like you, I grew up in a time when we would use a stick for a toy gun. We climbed trees, played ball, and generally ran loose. There were no such things as video games to occupy our time. My dad wasn't a carpenter, but he was a dedicated do it your selfer, and he involved me in many of his projects. Now the student has surpassed the teacher. I taught myself cabinet and furniture making, plumbing, and electricity. Thanks for telling me your story, ans please keep watching.

Really high quality tutorial! I have a soaker hose that's leaking at the connection point (where the hose is embedded into the handle) - do you know how to go about fixing that?

Handle? Do you mean the hose end threaded connector

Thank you for the helpful soaker hose repair tips. Do I measure the inside diameter of the soaker hose for the correct sized brass barb fitting? For example my hose outside diameter is 1/2 inch-should I measure the inside diameter for correct fit?
@deerparkhomeshop24713 ай бұрын
If the outside measures 1/2" OD, the ID will probably be between 3/8' and 1/4" depending on the wall thickness of the hose. Usually when you buy a hose rated at 1/2", that will be the actual ID. New hoses are more flexible and a 1/2" OD hose will probably stretch enough to accept a 3/8" barb. Mine were old and brittle, and the 1/4" plex tube worked much better. Thanks for your comment.

Hi thanks You video is very useful to fix my cut off soaker hose. I used 3/8”. Yet, some water Leakes from the jointed area. Can I use 1/2” or use gorilla clue. Thanks
@deerparkhomeshop2471 Жыл бұрын
Are you using the plastic pex tube for the repair, or did you buy the metal 3/8" repair kit? If you are using the radiator clamps, try tightening them some more. If its just one joint inspect closely. Old hoses get brittle and you may have a crack or split in the rubber. I tried 1/2" on my hoses and they split the rubber when I tried to install them. If you have newer hoses 1/2" might work for you. I've never tried gorilla glue for this. If it works for you be sure let me know.

@@deerparkhomeshop2471 Perhaps a silicone based adhesive to be flexible and not possibly etch the soaker hose material?
@deerparkhomeshop247110 ай бұрын
Yes, that may work or you could probably use silicon sealer if you don't have the adhesive kind.@@eN-pl4vk

@@deerparkhomeshop2471 Excellent plan. What good DIY'er doesn't have an opened one needing to get used up? I've tried several methods to prevent mine from drying (solidifying), and knowing they don't stay fresh forever, can you offer any tips on effective ways to seal off the cut end of a cartridge?
@deerparkhomeshop247110 ай бұрын
INo, I've tried numerous things on the cartridge end to no avail. It always hardens. I will use a small flatr bladed screwdriver to dig or pry the hardened caulk out. If that doen't work i take a drill bit and drill down the tube end. Let me know if you have a different technique. @@eN-pl4vk

I forgot to cut my soaker hose before burying some of it, so the end cap end is already buried and I don’t want to dig it back up. If I cut it from the end that connects to the faucet, is it better to do this process or should I make one cut near the faucet connection end and replace the connection end? I ask because I’m not sure how to replace the connection end. I see they have female and male connector kits sold at Home Depot and Lowes though.
@deerparkhomeshop2471 Жыл бұрын
I don't think it maters which end you cut as long as you use the right connector. One thing though, if you cut the faucet end be sure to leave enough slack in the hose so you can attach it to the faucet or you may have to dig up all that hose. 😀
