Even though I don’t wear sweaters because I get too hot, I’m glad I just learned it, as I’m sure I’ll need sweaters at some point in the future!!! Thank you so much for sharing your time, creativity and knowledge!! I am very grateful for it all!!! Thank you!!! Much Love, Great Big Ole Mama Bear Hugs and Many Blessings!!!!❤❤❤❤

I'm a tailor of 30 yrs and a repair weaver. Yrs ago I had a lovely Frenchman who was a weaver teach me repair weaving on kints like sweaters and wool suits. I love doing it. It's very relaxing. I love it when a garment is multi colored pattern. It's a challenge to see if I can weave the colors of the design back into it to match the pattern so u can never tell a hole was ever there. U did a beautiful job.👍

My grandmother had a darning egg and at night when she was “resting” she would darn the socks that had holes in them. She grew up in the Masonic Children’s home in Batesville, Ark. Someone there taught her this along with sewing, crocheting, cooking, maths, reading, geography, harvesting wheat, planting and harvesting rice fields, chickens, pigs, cows, and goats, etc! I am grateful for the caregivers there. I used to hang over the back of her chair and thought the sock mending was magic! Thanks for giving me that special feeling again:)

Necessity is the mother of invention. We know from cave wall drawings, and burials that weaving of grasses and sedge was common as far back as 18,000 years ago during the Upper Paleolithic (also known as the Old Stone Age which lasted from 50,000 to 12,000 BC). In certain parts of Peru, conditions were such that woven artifacts have been discovered, surviving from 11,000 years ago!

It’s not sad. Plenty of people learn to do this kind of stuff. 100-200 years ago there was not as wide a variety of crafts/ trades as there are now, and women were often confined and boxed into things like sewing, cleaning and cooking. Now we have a large variety of things to do and be good at. For instance, If I want to be a doctor, I’m not going to have time to learn things like this because I’m mastering other things. It’s a sign of progress, and there will always be people that are great at knitting, sewing, etc.

I needed this. A little white bear plush my mom gave me has a sweater that needs repair. I hand Washed it because I was afraid of it getting worse when it needs to be Washed. I rarely did anything with it because I was afraid of it getting worse. Finding this randomly when I wasn't trying to find anything to repair a sweater is so helpful as I can finally repair the sweater on that plush.

Thank you this means the world to me. My mum died in 93 and I have a jumper of hers that is so worn it's snagged and frayed. I won't trust it to anyone because it's truly irreplaceable and the universe or maybe she sent me this sign in ur short so I can do it myself. Thank you x

It’s called darning. Our grandmothers in the 1800-1900 knew this basic skill. It’s unfortunate so many of us didn’t learn these necessary skills since going “green” requires we recycle ♻️, repair, or repurpose our clothes. Just saying. ❤
