How to Repair a Plastic Conservatory Roof Easily

After a big storm my conservatory plastic roof became damaged by falling tree branches. This is how I repaired it.
1.Clean the damaged area very well.
2.Dry the Area.
3.Cut Repair tape to fit.
4.Apply tape to damaged area using light pressure.
5.Done :-)

Absolutely Love it ! Since I have taken to watching KZbin, It always fascinates me how long a video can be made to last with very little or no content. That will do the trick for a good while. Unfortunately you end up with a giant blob of black on your transparent roof doing so though. The best long term fix I have found is doing that exact sort of cleaning prep, with a small panel of solid polycarbonate / perspex and joining it with shower grade (mould and yellowing resistant) silicone. You build up a lip of silicone on the top edge to allow water to run off to the sides, so pooling doesn't occur. You won't notice it without looking for it.

The flashing won't stay stuck to the plastic for very long, trust me I know, the best thing I found is. use thin poly carb flat sheet with carpet glue. These plastic roofs get very hot in the summer, so any glue will become soft with the heat. So again, it won't stay stuck forever, but it will stay stuck for longer. It will make for a more invisible mend. In general, if this type of roof becomes brittle, it is time to cover it with corrugated sheets or replace it. These roofs have a built-in shelf life.

But you cannot see through it therefore it is unsightly... some sort of clear silicone would have been better, maintained by the patch on the other side whilst it dries. Then peel off the patch..

A few top tips not mentioned in this video: - if using flashband, use flashband primer to improve adhesion. Recommended on such a low pitch application. Flashband is typically used as an alternative to lead flashing. - you can purchase a clear weatherproof tape, which is suitable for patching polycarbonate. In this case I’d avoid using something abrasive when cleaning the polycarbonate sheet. Furthermore this tape costs just £3 (as opposed to the much more expensive flashband and primer). - if you are looking to repair the polycarbonate roof, you can easily replace the panel for less than £100 if it’s 10mm.
