Tip from 2021: If you happen to be one of the many out there with a chowdered swingarm off a Honda CR250, you can use a 37mm stainless steel shielded bearing if you don't have access to a lathe or an equivalent sized steel plug. Also, use stainless steel if you can over carbon steels for backing aluminum.

.. That's exactly the job I've got to do on a badly worn CR250 arm ,.. Every one I've seen for sale also has the same problem to varying degrees !!! Is it down to the negligent owners, or design ?...

Great work Trick Eng! What rod, tungsten and heat/balance setting were you using for the swing arm. No issues with containment due to grease or anything like that?

Thank you! I’m not sure what the exact alloy is. I believe 5000 series for some of the Japanese tubes not sure on the casting.

If it’s not all the way through $60-80. If all the way worn through it’s $100-150 depending how badly damaged.

Question, how did you remove that fat circular piece without the weld getting attached to it? Is there something about materials which won't bond to welding? I came across your video because I want to weld some rear spools to my swingarm because it doesn't have any at the moment and it's annoying to work on my rear tyre.

Dissimilar metals keeps it from sticking.

Paul C cause it was steel, and not aluminum. Different process for welding so it doesn’t weld it together since they’re dissimilar metals.

Rui Vieira 3/32 E3, 5356 filler, not sure amps cause I generally have it set 240-280 and just pedal it 👍🏻

Is there anything you do to restore the casting texture? Blasting of some sort?

You can use a needle scaler to create texture on restored work.
